People in Finland have consumed their annual share of the Earth's natural resources on Wednesday, 1 April, according to WWF, the World Wildlife Fund.

Each year, Overshoot Day marks the point at which the planet's annual biocapacity would be exhausted if everyone consumed as much as the residents of that country.

Finland continues to rank among the world's top consumers of renewable natural resources, placing 16th in this year's overshoot statistics.

Qatar tops the list, having exhausted its share of renewable resources by 4 February. Other early overshooters in February included Luxembourg and Singapore.

Among the Nordics, Denmark's overshoot day was at the end of March, while Sweden's follows a few days after Finland on 4 April.

While overshoot statistics cover a total of 82 countries, only 13 live within the planet's ecological limits. The best performer is Bangladesh, where residents use half of their share of the planet's renewable resources during an entire year.
