It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting., adventureAdventures are exciting stories, designed to provide an action-filled, energetic experience for the viewer. Rather than the predominant emphasis on violence and fighting, the viewer of adventures can live vicariously through the travels, conquests, explorations, creation of empires, struggles and situations that confront the main characters. Adventure films are often, but not always, set in an historical period., alienThis entity or creature was born on another world than the main characters., comedyAnime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience. Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy., fantasyImaginative or fanciful work, especially one dealing with supernatural elements and themes., haremThree or more characters, generally female, are under the influence of one character, normally male. Their interactions are romantically or sexually loaded. The female characters often draw heavily from stock archetypes. Sexual tones are applied to the lead`s behavior and to the members` depiction. The lead will often be physically abused for his behavior. The harem may be only a support to an existing or predictable relationship, or the lead may end up in relationships with most or all members., humanoid alienHumanoids are aliens, intelligent beings who do not originate from Earth, but have a striking similarity to humans or at least show the basic body layout, i.e. two arms and legs, head with two eyes and ears, one nose and mouth. Though the latter - head-related features - may vary. As "DearS" shows some aliens actually exhibit super-human beauty, or as in the case of "Onegai Teacher" they are genetically compatible to humans for some strange reason., newNot based on anything, the story is a new work, usually made up by the people involved in creating the anime. Generally if an original work (原作) credit is given, it will be to the studio, or director, or other members of the production team., romanceRomance describes a story that deals with love between two or more characters typically also having an optimistic ending. Romance is also a difficulty encountered when creating a harem., science fictionScience fiction stories usually focus on how situations could be different in the future when we are more technologically advanced; due to either our own achievements or having met with other civilizations whom we have learned from., sudden girlfriend appearanceSudden Girlfriend Appearance anime involve a sudden change in the main character`s life where (s)he suddenly gets confronted with an individual (s)he`s sexually attracted to, the two of them inevitably becoming a couple., super powerBe it an ancient Greek Heracles, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show. - [similar]

Another case of anime that wait over 10 years in the shelf before I watch it. In that time I watch like the first tape dub and I was finding it, childish, sloopy and stupid. I recently found the dvd for dirt cheap and watch it to complete the Tenchi Saga. An to my surprise it's not so bad! Animation wise it's pretty decent, music wise background ost are often good (execept for the awful country/dance ending). Story wise in few world: First part suck and second don't. On First half it's mostly comedic slaptisc vilain of the week and on second half we've got a good plotline, nice character devellopment (yes it could happen in Tenchi) and even drama. Tenchi become less spineless than usual and even start like acting more like a normal human being. The only little downfall are the comedic deceiving conclusion that brings everinthing back in the usual pattern. But still it's very recomended serie for the wonderful second half. Sakuya is such an enjoyable character!

A good version of the Tenchi Muyou but not as good as the OVAs. Still recommended.

Brava! Bravissimo! Most impressive! After the mediocrity that is Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki and the catastrophic disappointment that is Tenchi Universe, I never expected to see anything like this. I’m not saying Tenchi in Tokyo is some sort of masterpiece, but to make such a turnaround after a long history of failure is quite an accomplishment.

Animation:
I noticed how Tenchi in Tokyo finally put an end to the same old miserable quality of animation that had followed the Tenchi shows thus far. By introducing a fun and colorful animation style, Tenchi in Tokyo succeeded tremendously in propping up the story in a most appropriate manner. Of course, the animation is still far from being completely professional and presentable so there is some room for improvement (Or maybe it’s just that I have such a strict taste?).

Sound:
I don’t have anything to really comment on, the sound was pretty ok, although the cover themes could have used some tweaking.

Story:
What impressed me the most is that Tenchi in Tokyo did a fantastic job in applying all its associated genres perfectly while sampling from other genres at the same time, it is a very difficult (and dangerous) juggling act that several other shows (which shall remain nameless) failed at miserably. I also enjoyed how it was able to keep the plot fluid and dynamic at all times, never losing interest – just climbing to the top at an insane speed without stopping for air. Also, its ability to shift between positions (e.g. comic > serious) with such great fluidity really astounded me.

Character:
Not that I expected anything more, but it would seem that the Tenchi cast is still pretty one-dimensional, you’d think they could have done something about it by now. Although it’s not as though I am complaining, the characters are pretty good as far as entertainment goes, it’s just that they could use a little bit more depth, that’s all.
What I didn’t like, however, was the change they made in Tenchi’s character: they turned him from a gung-ho Juraian swordsman into a sissified diplomat-like earth boy. What’s up with that?

Overall:
I really did like it, Tenchi in Tokyo did miraculously well in making up for the blunders of the past and that shows that the creators finally realized some of the things they did wrong (or, rather, very wrong!). I enjoyed it almost every step of the way and it’s on par with some of the best animes I have watched so far. I hope I like the next Tenchi shows I watch at least as much.

P.S.
This proves that my suspicions about the random suckiness of Tenchi Universe were correct. Hopefully, I won’t encounter anything as bad as that as I go along.

Since there are many types of memory, the person may e.g. forget who they are but still retain learned skills. Amnesia is fairly common in fiction as a plot device. In fact, because it allows for major plot changes while requiring little creativity from the author, it may be subject to heavy overuse., blue hairThe character has blue hair., hairbandA hairband is a flexible plastic or metal band or strip of cloth worn over the top of the head to hold the hair back and maintain a certain hairstyle. A hairband that includes ribbons or has bows along its length should be also tagged hair ribbon. For a similar band worn across the forehead primarily for athletic purposes, see sweatband., pantyhosePantyhose are sheer, close-fitting legwear, covering the body from the waist to the feet., short hairShort hair is hair from (but not including) bald, up to (but not including) shoulder-length hair. This hair length is what one would typically, though not always, see on most males. Short hair includes hair that goes no more than a centimetre or two beyond the chin; anything longer is shoulder-length., studentA student or pupil is a learner, or someone who attends an educational institution. The may be understood to mean only those enrolled in some sort of educational institution, but, in its widest use, it applies to anyone who is learning, including mid-career adults who are taking vocational education or returning to university, or younger researchers or artists learning from a more experienced colleague and mentor.

episode appearance appears in ep: 1-2, 5-16, 18-20, 22-26
female, 5.28 (26), blue eyesThis character has blue-colored eyes., earringAn earring is a piece of jewellery attached to the ear via a piercing in the earlobe or another external part of the ear (except in the case of clip earrings, which clip onto the lobe). Earrings are worn by both sexes, although more common among women, and have been used by different civilizations in different times., ganguroGanguro ("Black Face Girls") is a fashion trend among Japanese women, characterised by blonde or orange hair, tanned skin, black ink used as eye-liner, and white concealer used as lipstick and eyeshadow. False eyelashes, plastic facial gems, and pearl powder are often included. It peaked in popularity around the year 2000. The Shibuya and Ikebukuro districts of Tokyo were the centres of Ganguro fashion., hair ribbonHair ribbons are ribbons used both as hair decorations and as hair ties. Hair ribbons are often tied into bows. They may also be present as part of a hairband. In older anthropomorphic series, where the gender of characters was sometimes hard to tell at first glance, ribbon bows were used to indicate a female character., no pupilsEyes that are nothing but iris, lacking a pupil. For practical purposes, this also includes eyes with pupils the same colour as the iris, as the two kinds of eyes are generally indistinguishable from each other., ponytailA ponytail is a hairstyle in which most or all of the hair on the head is gathered and secured at the back of the head with a hair tie, clip or similar device, and allowed to hang freely from that point., simple-mindedThis character exhibits a `special` sort of intelligence. Be it the inability to comprehend even the most simple of situations, or the lack of common sense found in even a preschooler, the character never ceases to amaze both the show`s cast and audience with their idiocy., young adultSomeone is generally considered a young adult if they are between 20 to 40 years old.

male, alcoholicA person who drinks alcoholic substances habitually and to excess or who suffers from alcoholism., athleticA person good at athletics or sports, who is not necessarily part of a professional/amateur sports team or club., extreme durabilityThe character possesses some sort of natural armor. It takes extreme amounts of damage to even injure, let alone kill him/her/it., martial artsVarious sports or skills, mainly of Japanese origin, that originated as forms of self-defense or attack, such as judo, karate, and kendo., permanently closed eyesThe character`s eyes are almost always depicted closed. Depiction of the character`s eyes open is almost always a momentous event., physically strongIn comparison to the norm, someone who is physically strong possesses superior, sometimes even unnatural, physical strength. Said strength usually allows them to win fights, or at least to last longer; stronger people are also normally able to withstand harsh conditions more easily than the rest, and even do things as simple as carrying heavy weights around. This tag also applies when a race is stronger than others (think the Sayajin), as long as said weaker races are also a part of the cast., smokerThis character likes to smoke cigarettes, cigars or a pipe., teacherA teacher is a person who helps people to learn. A teacher often works in a classroom. There are many different kinds of teachers. Some teachers teach young children in schools called elementary or primary schools. Others teach older children in middle, junior high and high schools. Some teachers teach adults in more advanced schools.

female, 7.00 (7), batonA short stick used by police officers and other law-enforcement personal., bodysuitA bodysuit is a one-piece outfit that fits the body tightly. The most famous anime bodysuits are doubtlessly the Evangelion plugsuits. Space suits are not bodysuits, because they are not tight, but one-piece wetsuits or swimwear are. They do not have to cover the legs, as bodysuits do not need to cover the entire body. They are not to be confused with an entirely different piece of clothing that covers the torso and crotch and which is also named bodysuit, but is an undergarment, not an outfit., large breastsLarge breasts are breasts a fair notch larger than average, as found in some real life adolescent girls or fully grown women. They are bigger than medium breasts and smaller than huge breasts. Note: This tag has many anime/character entries that need to be moved to the new medium and huge breasts tags. Please add the appropriate tag and remove this one from the corresponding anime/character afterwards., martial artsVarious sports or skills, mainly of Japanese origin, that originated as forms of self-defense or attack, such as judo, karate, and kendo., police officerThis character works for the police, and his or her job is related to keeping peace, law and order., ponytailA ponytail is a hairstyle in which most or all of the hair on the head is gathered and secured at the back of the head with a hair tie, clip or similar device, and allowed to hang freely from that point., skirtA skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped piece of clothing that hangs from the waist and covers the legs partially or fully. Skirts are often seen as garments for women, but exceptions exist. In anime, they`re almost always worn by women, generally as school uniform or workplace garments, and a man with one will likely be cross-dressing. Skirts that go below the knee are usually associated with strict rules and at times with winter, though even in winter anime schoolgirls in miniskirts can be found., young adultSomeone is generally considered a young adult if they are between 20 to 40 years old.
