L'Asie est le continent le plus vaste et le plus peuplé de la Terre, situé principalement dans les hémisphères de l'Est et du Nord. Il couvre 8,7% de la superficie totale de la Terre et comprend 30% de son territoire. Environ 4,3 milliards de personnes accueillent 60% de la population mondiale actuelle. Comme la plupart du monde, l'Asie a un taux de croissance élevé à l'ère moderne. Par exemple, au cours du 20ème siècle, la population asiatique a presque quadruplé, tout comme la population mondiale. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean. Given its size and diversity, the concept of Asia – a name dating back to classical antiquity - may actually have more to do with human geography than physical geography.
