Finland provides Ukraine with oil spill response aid package
Finland has donated 35 trucks carrying oil skimmers with power sources, booms, personal protective equipment, and other oil spill response equipment to Ukraine, the Finnish Embassy in Ukraine reported.
"Oil spill response is an important tool for reducing environmental damage. Petroleum products contain substances that pose a serious threat to ecosystems. Even small concentrations can lead to contamination of groundwater and water supplies," the Embassy said in a Facebook post.
At the end of 2025, Ukraine submitted an urgent request for assistance through the European Unionβs Civil Protection Mechanism. The Finnish Ministry of the Interior coordinated the response together with the Border Guard and rescue units.
"Cooperation between authorities was extremely effective. We were able to gather a significant amount of equipment for delivery to Ukraine without compromising our own response readiness," Ville Estlander, a senior officer with the Finnish Ministry of the Interiorβs rescue service, was quoted as saying.
The package included donations from the Finnish Border Guard and rescue services, as well as equipment purchased by the Ministry of the Interior.
