Syrsky explains why Ukraine needs assault troops and whether they replace paratroopers
Commander-in-Chief of the AFU Oleksandr Syrsky has explained the necessity of creating assault troops and the difference between their purpose and that of the Air Assault Forces.
"The Air Assault Forces (DSHV) are our elite. These are brigades equipped with the most modern weaponry, undergo training, and are used for actions in the offensive, defense, and other types of combat. They currently form the basis of our offensive groupings. Meanwhile, assault units are used where it is necessary to stabilize the situation, where positions have been abandoned, or where rapid or fleeting offensive actions and strikes need to be carried out. Most importantly, they ensure the actions of the main offensive grouping. As a rule, they do not have their own sectors and are used across the entire line of combat contact," Syrsky explained in an interview with the ICTV television channel.
The Commander-in-Chief called rumors about alleged intentions to "destroy the DSHV" and replace them with assault troops "myths and legends."
"The tasks of the Air Assault Forces and assault units do not overlap in any way. On the contrary, they fight together and complement each other. As a rule, paratrooper commanders always request an assault unitβeither to cover a flank, perform flanking maneuvers, or to deliver a strike followed by the insertion of an air assault brigade. That is, assault troops are a requirement of today. This is the nature of this war and these are the conclusions of this war," he emphasized.
Syrsky explained the need for creating assault troops through his own experience gained while commanding the Khortytsia operational-strategic grouping of troops.
