Neutral tone? "deft stratagems of omission and commission"
[edit]Aisha Ahmed is the most beautiful woman on earth!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-25978-63 (talk) 22:41, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[]
At the time of writing this Talk topic, the article stated: "colonizing powers sought to regulate the age of consent... such efforts ran into conflicts with local forms of Sharia, [and] Aisha's age at marriage... In response, some Muslims chose to... re-calculated her age – using deft stratagems of omission and commission – to fix it at early adolescence..."
This doesn't sound at all fair - "deft stratagems of omission and commission".
The parent article Wives of Muhammad was far less dismissive of the scholarly debate over the age at which the marriage was consummated: "many non-Muslim historians, Islamic scholars, and Muslim writers have challenged the previously accepted timeline of her life by claiming that Aisha was in fact 18–19 years old when she consummated her marriage to Muhammad according to historical reviews."
As far as I can tell, neither article contains supporting references on this point that are freely downloadable, which makes fact-checking practically impossible. The parent article gives six references to the dispute over her age at the time of consummation; this article gives just one reference, purportedly dismissing the scholarly debate as "deft stratagems of omission and commission". - Luckily there are online bookshops, and that makes fact-checking practical. There is no requirement for sources to be available online.-- Toddy1 (talk) 08:29, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- Wives of Muhammad isn't the "parent" article for Aisha. Aisha is the main article when it comes to Aisha's biography. The section on Aisha in the Wives of Muhammad article is supposed to be an overview/summary of Aisha. — Longewal (talk) 01:40, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[]
Perspective mismatch and needed additions
[edit]The article itself does not mention anything but one-liners for Shia tradition. This is a very inadequate method of representing the views of over 200 million muslims of a different denomination. The article needs to incorporate more of a shia view and WHY specifically the shia critique her based off of evidence and sources available. Her political legitimacy, her time with Muhammad, these things have different views in Shia islamic tradition. This needs representation. Muneebfr (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- There is already a separate main article covering Shia views about her, so there is no need to discuss them further here. Selenne (talk) 05:26, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- for what? to blaspheme? ~2026-22793-51 (talk) 09:06, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- The link in the article takes you to a page all about Mohammed and his year of birth is different to this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-23529-96 (talk) 16 April 2026
