Outdated/misleading info

[edit source]
Latest comment: 23 June 20243 comments3 people in discussion

The Indie Wiki Buddy extension does no longer hide/replace the search results in Google and friends, but instead greys them out, adds a strikethrough to the text and a label pointing to the new source. The page (And the box on the left side in the nav) therefore provide misleading info that should be corrected. Andre 601 (talk) 23:41, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

It looks like the default behavior for the extension is to strikethrough the Fandom results with the label. However, you can adjust this in the extension's settings to hide the results in the search engine instead of striking them. And if this doesn't seem to work at all (which was my experience this afternoon), you may need to reinstall the extension in your browser. KeybladeSpyMaster (talk) 03:12, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
I think the "hide" bit is referring to the new IWB feature for Google that moves indie results above Fandom results, and hides the Fandom result if the article title matches that of the indie result. This is enabled by default. Otherwise, the default behavior is indeed to strikethrough - but as Keyblade mentioned, hiding Fandom results is still available as a setting. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:22, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Shouldn't the "get for other browsers" link instead take you to the Chrome Web Store page?

As in the title. As literally all other browsers are Chromium-based (nobody uses Safari or GNOME Web on desktop), I feel like this makes sense RustCurve164933 (talk) 10:43, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

"Get for other browsers" can totally mean to install the extension in Firefox if you are currently using Chrome. GIM Dianliang233 T C 10:59, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Why can't we nuke the old wiki?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 25 July 20244 comments3 people in discussion

I mean, why not delete every page from the old wiki? What was the reason behind that?

like this instead of this. This sucks for the readers! We can't nuke the old wiki, so

Ooooooooo1 (talk) 05:48, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

We can't. GIM Dianliang233 T C 08:39, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
How about you clarify what do you mean by the link? Ooooooooo1 (talk) 06:48, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Fandom forbids it. They want their wikis to stay so they would get more profits. — BabylonAS 07:05, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

They moved to GitHub. I just dislike the move, but you can put the new site there. 49.145.104.228 13:56, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

This wiki is not the creator of the extension. Please report this to the extension's creator. 👁 Image

You can submit new wikis here: https://getindie.wiki/#submit. I'm not sure if a GitHub wiki would qualify though. | violine1101 (talk) 18:33, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

The extension doesnt work on opera GX

[edit source]
Latest comment: 30 January 20252 comments2 people in discussion

The extension doesn't work on opera GX, but only the crossing out fandom links part doesn't work, the rest does 217.164.49.111 16:45, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

Opera, by default, prevents extensions from working on search engines. If you'd like IWB to modify your search results, you need to go to your extension settings (opera://extensions) and check the box to allow IWB to access search page results. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 09:08, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

how did you guys even add this blue button saying to download it for the browser youre using? because pasting the source of the page into another page does not show the blue button and the visual editor makes the button completely disappear! so how did you add it? 37.161.204.19 08:11, 28 August 2025 (UTC)

Indie Wiki Buddy was not created by Minecraft Wiki. 👁 Image

i didnt say indie wiki buddy was created by the minecraft wiki, im just confused by how they embedded it 37.161.204.19 08:20, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
Some JavaScript has been involved. See MediaWiki:Gadget-iwb.js and MediaWiki:Gadget-iwb.css. BabylonAS 08:23, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
just how did they embed the js and css? embedding it as a template just shows the code and i dont see anything releated to css and js in the source code 37.161.204.19 08:30, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
JavaScript is used via a gadget, which is registered at MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition. It is not embedded into the page directly. BabylonAS 08:32, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
a gadget enabled by default? 37.161.204.19 08:33, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
Yes; in fact it is a hidden gadget and cannot be easily disabled. — BabylonAS 08:33, 28 August 2025 (UTC)

Mobile browsers

[edit source]
Latest comment: 28 August 20251 comment1 person in discussion

Out of the three browsers supported by the gadget used here, Firefox and Edge both officially support extensions on mobile platforms (at least Android), so it would make sense to let the button display on these browsers, which would require removing the Vector skin requirement from the MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition entry. Since Chrome won’t be joining that club yet, the corresponding if block should have its condition extended with && !ua.includes("Mobile"); the “not supported” label may also need tweaking. This change is already implemented on RuMCW (see ru:MediaWiki:Gadget-iwb.js). — BabylonAS 15:15, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
