The obsidian gateway[1] is a ruined Nether portal, discovered by Steve and then activated to take him to the Nether, appearing in a bastion on the Nether side.
The portal is situated inside of a dry forest, surrounded by stone and trees. The frame is composed of obsidian, similar to the Earth portal, but with a crown-like ornament on the top, covered in vines. Unlike other blocks, the components of the portal are noticeably larger than a humans. Unlike other Nether portals, it has not succumbed to crying obsidian.[2]
While on an adventure with Dennis, Steve discovered the portal. Patching up the frame and lighting it with flint and steel, he unwittingly wandered straight into the Nether. Emerging in a bastion, he came face to face with Malgosha, who was shocked to discover a round mob. This lead to his capture, and allowed for an invasion into the Overworld.
