In the table "Motion of entities", there is no parameters for Trident. However, Trident is an important entity, just like eggs, potions, etc.
BTW, what about the initial velocity of the entities when thrown? It seems that there's completely no data on the internet.
If blocks are stored in an array, how are entities stored? How does an entity move between blocks?
Under the information about the sand and gravel entities, is this still valid? Every time i try this, the sand just drops into a resource block.
"If there is a boat or minecart in the way of falling sand, it will place itself as a block above the vehicle, but then immediately fall down again, producing a 'hopping' effect. This can be used in the construction of a sand cannon."

Tested and Confirmed. I'm going to remove that part now. WhispersOfALostGirl 20:03, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

I was just reading the page and it said something to the effect that feeding wolves would stop the action of eating yourself. I decided to test this. I used the More Stackables mod (www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=80246) and the Too Many items mod to give myself 2 raw porkchop.
Then I tamed a wolf, hit it to cause damage and lit myself on fire to hurt myself. Then I used the stack of two porkchop on the wolf, it healed the wolf and healed myself, using both porkchop in the process. I tested this a couple times, and I'm pretty sure that what happens in the vanilla is that when you use a single raw porkchop on the wolf, the right click action of feeding the wolf takes precedence over the normal right click action of the porkchops, (eating it yourself.) Which means that when the game tries to make the player eat the porkchop, there is no porkchop left in the slot and it cancels it.
I hope I've made sense and please feel free to check my research and submit corrections.

Porkchops aren't meant to be stackable, If they ever get officially stackable (example: hunger/thirst mode), mojang will probably fix the bug ;) Calinou - talk × contribs » 20:26, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Is this bug gone now that it is now officially stackable?
Isn't armour an entity? It is a thing in the Minecraft world that isn't a block or another object that fits into the cubical grid. It can move around freely (as long as it is attatched to a player) --HexZyle 14:16, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
I changed "Most entities" to "All entities" because all entities are instances of sub-classes of Entity and all of these things are fields in Entity so all entities inherit them, even if they aren't ever used (smoke never burns for example).86.149.111.2 18:46, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
In this section of the entities pages, there is an extra box on the very bottom row that has a "200" in it. I am not sure what purpose this serves as there is no heading or label to describe what it is. Nor are there any other numerical vaule throughout the rest of this table. I am asking that this be removed or some description be placed in the following paragraph. --Choolio123 11:32, 9 February 2012
Endercrystals do not drop placed bedrock, they are spawned inside bedrock! If you spawn an endercrystal with a spawn egg, nothing is yielded upon its destruction.--99.25.90.235 03:49, 20 February 2012 (UTC) (P.S. How do I log in with my Minecraft Forum account, or can I even?)
Also, why is it listed as solid, even though on the ender crystal page it says it isn't solid. Weird!--99.25.90.235 00:38, 4 March 2012 (UTC) (P.S. They're not solid.)
How are painting entities? Paintings are TITLE entities, not entities. It says that a title entity would not be listed as an entity.
I am here NOT to express my doubt on the correctness of these data since I have no better ideas on how to get more accurate datas about the motion of entities. But,I think all articles in wiki must be verifiable and a single lonely data lying in the table do makes people feel unreliable and unwill to trust, especially a data like this-complex and quantized. The data in this part is not similar with simple datas like "TNT will explode 4s after primed" and you can feel a complex formula behind it. It harras me a lot to estimate if the datas are reliable or not because I do not know they are calculated in an experiment in the game or pulled from decompiled source code,or got directly from Notch. Can the author of this part bother to add some information about how these datas are got and make readers more likely to trust them?
It is an advise not only to this page but to all the Minecraft Wiki site since I have seen a lot of pages refer datas with no illustration just like this one.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by Woshizhu99 (Talk|Contribs) 13:50, 5 May 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
This article does not seem to hint of entites that cannot be controlled even with mods. As in, entities with no health and no interaction, such as mobs in multiplayer under the effects of a severe lag spike or the chicken from the Christmas Falling Chicken Apocalypse. 174.114.8.167 02:53, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Nework-IDs and save-IDs should be shown in the table. im not really that good at editing in the wiki, so i guess most people can do that better than me. and i also think its good if people agree about it instead of one just implements it without anyone else thet wants the same. right? anyone who thinks this is needed/useful?

I have some problems with the definition or the list of Entities. This page says: "All entities have these properties:
Entities can be pushed around by water currents." But there are some Objects, called "Entity" which don´t fulfill all conditions. The fishing rod bobber for example, the Lightning bolt or the Particles which are graphical effects (only textures). They cant´t be pushed around by water currents and don´t have a (current) health. Also they don´t occupy a 3-dimensional box. Another problem: They don´t have an Entity ID. Isn´t the ownership of an Entity ID the only correct definition of an Entity? Chunk format says:"Every entity is an unnamed TAG_Compound contained in the Entities list of a chunk file." What do you think? --.zip de.MinecraftWiki-Admin Diskussion 21:08, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Is this a bug? If a falling sand entity is launched very fast upward (example: "/summon FallingSand ~ ~1 ~ {Time:1,Motion:[0.0,10.0,0.0]}"), it falls as an item, not as an entity! 140.0.240.180 09:57, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
The ID for a fishing rod bobber is "unknown". You can teleport it around, execute command at it, etc. etc. just like any other entity, using @e[type=unknown]. 98.206.83.225 01:29, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
In the Riding section, this states that a "Mob on a lead" is an example of an entity riding an entity. However, in the Chunk_Format#Entity_Format page, and the Mobs section of that page, there are two separate tags: 'Riding:', which contains all the tags for the entity being ridden, and 'Leash:', which contains 5 tags used to specify how the leash works. Also, in the 'Riding:' tag, it says that "the bottommost entity controls movement", not the top (demonstrated by hitting a skeleton in a spider jockey), but this is not true for a mob riding a leash. Should this therefore be removed from the list? Or is there some reason that it is actually correct, possibly meaning a note should be made on either this or the Chunk Format page?NotEnoughData (talk) 23:57, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
The entities "ThrownExpBottle" and "ThrownPotion" seem to be missing from the list of entities. Could someone add them please? KingSupernova (talk) 02:36, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

why can't you summon an item? (iron ingot,diamond...)--93.8.78.165 10:17, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
Hello, It's written in the page that paintings and item frames have infinite health. But I remember that you can kill them with arrows, explode them with TNT... Could someone check (and maybe correct) this ?
Thank you, 78.193.28.136 13:39, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
This page does not list the NBT tags shared by all entities that you can find on the pages for all entities, should that information be added to this page? --Desmondc474 (talk) 17:37, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
the article shows that boats don't have a terminal velocity, so would that mean that they have no top speed? 76.141.102.14 17:46, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
The article uses a division of entities into living and others. However, there is not a definition of "living" as armor stands clearly stray from the real-life definition of life. Itap (talk) 19:27, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Llama spit and fired arrows / tridents have the same horizontal drag and ticking order but different maximum horizontal travel distance. 49.192.110.242 13:25, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
The math on the motion section prevents me from scrolling the table, as the whole page scrolls, leaving the table behind, thus making it unusable. 👁 Image

The article only states that for some mobs the friction is 0.6. By friction I mean additional horizontal drag for entities that are on the ground. For TNT, the friction is 0.7 for bedrock and blue ice (that's what I tested), but 0.28 for soul sand. I guess it's just 0.7 regardless of block, but soul sand has some special multiplier?
This decompiled code also states it's 0.7 for TNT: https://github.com/Bukkit/mc-dev/blob/master/net/minecraft/server/EntityTNTPrimed.java (line 50).
I don't know enough about the wiki or minecraft mechanics to confidently edit this, but I'm just saying there's no information about TNT friction being 0.7 109.206.198.76 20:00, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
“ This is a GitHub repository with some in-depth explanation about the topic.” seems out of place and should be incorporated into the article in another way
note 1 and 2 under the table in the Motion category link to the entity list (and that's in a different section) and they should probably be with the note that's already under the entity list
