I made the whole Nether Reactor then I spawned into the room of Netherrack. After 45 secs I got Melon Seeds, Nether Quartz and Sugar Canes only .I saw the Burnt out nether reactor which is made of 26 Obsidian and a Nether Reactor Core. I Mined netherrack to get nether brick. I watched the video and this seems to be a way into the Nether. The Zombie Pigs are somewhat derpy, but the guy spawned in an obsidian room with Pigmen attacking him. Stpehen –Preceding undated comment was added at 02:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

It's a bit clearer in the second part of the video, but the reactor builds an obsidian cube around itself; there is no separate Nether dimension. -- Orthotope 05:53, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Something that doesn't make much sense is that although it requires at least an iron pickaxe to mine diamond, and at least a stone pickaxe to mine iron, it only takes a wooden pickaxe to mine this. It doesn't make much sense, unless this is just vandalism or misinformation, why a wooden pickaxe can mine something made out of iron and diamond. I haven't seen the reactor spawn gold, but the spawned pigmen drop gold... is this a mistake, or is spawned gold just really rare?

I put down two torches in the few moments between the room appearing and items beginning to spawn. First items appeared, then three zombie pigmen appeared. I slew them, and began to run around gathering items when three more appeared, slew them and a final three appeared before the reactor burnt out. A steel sword was good enough to kill them easily.

After activating the nether reactor (and killing 9 pigmen), I had the following extra items in my inventory:

• 5x Bamboo
• 4x Gold ingots
• 10x Small brown mushrooms
• 15x Glow dust
• 9x Pumpkin seeds
• 6x Cacti
• 7x Red and white mushrooms
• 1x Bow
• 1x Bone

Try to type seed 0.4.0 dig straight down first get wood then get stone then mine iron then smelt then dig straight more for gold and diamond! dig on grass near beach make room then mine (layer 14) and you get gold! Minecraftaddict154 00:55, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Just for fun, I decided to mine the Nether Reactor Core block immediately after activating it. I was able to reclaim the four gold blocks and have a Nether Spire with no holes in it, but it seems to have fubar'd the day/night cycle for that world.

Instead of the normal ten minutes of daylight and seven minutes of night with 90 second twilight in between, the world now seems to be in perpetual night. The only exception is after sleeping, when there is daylight for roughly 30 seconds, twilight for 5 seconds, and then perpetual night again.

As far as I can tell, the Reactor is supposed to set the time to night while it's active; breaking the core before it's done prevents the usual deactivation effects from happening. You could try building another Reactor and let it finish properly, see if that fixes the day/night cycle. -- Orthotope 09:04, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Yes it is a bug i tried it in Hale's world and delete the core and got:

5x Seed

8x Cactus

5x Sugarcane

20x Quartz

18x Obsidian and tried to sleep turned to day in 30 seconds and sunset in 5 seconds and night for infinite time. 😢 I hid it in a cave near waterfall (seed: 0.4.0) then i broke the 2nd floor spire then it is fixed. Got it? --Minecraftaddict154 12:32, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

It takes 36 gold each time. I got 2 gold blocks back. Make sure you have an empty inventory before using the reactor.

You need Iron Sword, and Diamond Pickaxe*. Save the Pickaxe for the Obsidian. Use the Iron Sword to touch The Reactor and kill the Pigmen. They drop gold ingot instead of nuggets because there are no nuggets in PE. If you have problems, break the 2nd floor not the room you collect stuff. Time is fixed.

• Only use for Obsidian for Reactor.

About how many pigmen spawn from an active reactor? According to Zombie Pigman, they all drop a gold ingot, and if that is true, mining the gold blocks may not be needed to multiply your gold supply. –KnightMiner ^(t·c) 14:14, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

According the game binary, the Nether Reactor has a compound tag with three tags inside: a boolean tag called "IsInitialized", a short tag called "Progress", and another boolean tag called "HasFinished". Yes, like all tile entities, it inherits the X, Y, Z, and ID tags. After looking at the game binary some more and testing with a save file, the "Progress" tag is a number between 0 and 920 measured in game ticks, because when progress reaches 920, the game signals the nether reactor to go inactive; that number makes sense too when you consider that the nether reactor is only on for 45 seconds, and the game runs at 20 ticks per second. I'm not very good at wiki editing and formatting. I listed all the info I found about the NBT for it, so you can add it if you want. Pocket Edition NBT format is pretty much the same as PC, the only difference is how PE saves the NBT files. Just remember that the NBT section should go on the Nether Reactor Core page, since that's the page for the actual tile entity itself. Jocopa3 (talk) 03:23, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

The block is still in the game, and if you have already placed them down they will stay in your world it’s happened to a few of my older minecraft worlds, they still have the breather reactor core in them, and I can still place them down as I had them in my inventory, also I’m not sure why your angry about a removed feature you never properly experienced. According to the history section, the texture of the block was changed to appear correctly due to an issue with the Plastic texture pack. Currently, the page itself uses the Plastic texture pack image, which I believe should be changed to reflect the intended state of the block; it was changed to look like the normal one, as it previously looked like the plastic one due to a bug. --172.58.155.132 22:41, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

If it currently uses the Plastic Texture Pack texture, then I think it should use it here as well as that reflects how it actually appears in-game. If it's since been fixed, then I agree, it should use the intended texture. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 22:59, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

According to the History section: "The textures of nether reactor cores have now been changed due to a bug where the block's textures switched with the Plastic resource pack's, and if the player used the Plastic resource pack, the original textures would be shown on the block." There are two things that could have occurred: the bug was fixed in Bedrock Edition and it now uses the Plastic texture file, or the bug was not fixed, and it properly uses the vanilla texture file. Unfortunately, I have neither Bedrock Edition nor the tools required to obtain the block, so I have no way of testing this. Until someone does manage to test it, I suppose the best thing to do would be to leave the page in its current state. --172.58.155.132 23:13, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

This page claims that the player had to be level with the reactor, which had to be between levels 4 and 96. However, both of these are false. The player had to be between levels 4 and 96 (I'm assuming the upper bound based on what I know), but did not have to be level with the reactor. However, activating the reactor without being level with it was tricky at best. That said, I used reactors to break a hole through bedrock, which required the last reactor to be on level 2 (the floor generated in 2 levels of netherrack, so this was enough to clear the bedrock), and it required that I stand a couple blocks higher than the reactor (otherwise I got a message saying something about being too low). Unfortunately I don't remember what exactly the message said, as this was of course several years ago, but I remember for certain that I made the reactor activate by standing higher than it and successfully broke bedrock this way.

I've never once edited a wiki page before, so I'm not sure what's the best way to go about updating this information. Can I just go change it?

I disagree with your answer to the question that was proposed. A nicer reply could have been to say the following:

"We are not officially affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft and as such, we do not know what unannounced plans Mojang may have for Minecraft. Currently, the Nether Reactor Core is a removed feature and that is all that we know at this current time. I hope that this answers your question."
