Why was the page moved?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 29 September 20242 comments2 people in discussion

Why was the page moved from "Pale garden drop" to "Creaking Canopies"? I understand there is not currently an official title, but "Pale garden drop" feels like a more factual description of what the update is. "Creaking Canopies" appears to be a fan-made speculative title. Rampage455 (talk) 03:28, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

It shouldn't have been. I've reverted the changes. GIM Dianliang233 T C 03:30, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

The release date

Latest comment: 27 November 202418 comments6 people in discussion

Why is the release date not winter? I mean it's literally called the winter drop. Gamegamegamer14wastaken (talk) 20:07, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

There is no explicit release date as of now. A release date will be added when one is officially announced. BDJP (t|c) 20:09, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Historically, Mojang has used the term "holiday" to refer to December (Bedrock 1.8.0 was internally called the Holiday Update, and Buzzy Bees was called a "Holiday update" in an article. This fits with the working title right now which is "Winter Drop." So, it will be released sometime in December (it would have to release before the Mojang employees have their Christmas break). I don't see any good reason why we can't say December 2024, or Winter 2024. Minermatt122514 (talk) 06:37, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Technically we don't know which "winter" they mean. It could be winter 2025/26 (January 2026 is still winter), or they could be referring to southern-hemisphere winter, and the drop releases in July 2025. This most likely isn't the case, but the wiki doesn't make assumptions. | violine1101 (talk) 13:04, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Okay, the drop is obviously not going to be released in winter 2025/26. That makes no sense. I wouldn't even consider that speculation. Next, Mojang and Microsoft's offices are in the northern-hemisphere. So, the winter they are referring to could be anytime from December 2024-March 2025. (If you want to be sure, you could ask someone from Mojang what winter they are referring to.) Mojang called it a "holiday update." So, it would have to be released close to a holiday. As I stated before, the updates that have been called a "holiday update" were released in December. (The holiday is Christmas.) So, I would put Winter 2024 in the release date field. Minermatt122514 (talk) 13:55, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
This still is an assumption tho, and as violine said, wiki doesn't make assumption.
Yes, you are right that it's probably going to release in winter 2024/2025, but we don't have a confirmation. We need confirmation. Simple stuff. Melwin22 (talk) 14:14, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
So, we need confirmation then. We should ask someone from Mojang to clarify this. Minermatt122514 (talk) 15:33, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Winter is in the name, we have it ingame via experiments (which usually means it is almost done(usually)), so it is a pretty safe assumption it willl be this winter. Could be wrong though Gamegamegamer14wastaken (talk) 11:59, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Looking back, the fact that we even needed clarification for this makes me laugh. The announcements literally had the words "winter" and "holiday" in them. What does that reference? December of course! Minermatt122514 (talk) 15:51, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Winter for most of us is summer for a few of us. We still must be very, Bai sure. We must have confirmation from an official source. Even if there was a 99.999% chance of an update being in a certain month, we still wouldn't document it like that. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  15:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
When does winter begin in Sweden and the U.S. (where Mojang Studios and Microsoft are)? Winter for them begins in December. End of argument. Minermatt122514 (talk) 16:00, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Forgive me for contradicting you, but your comment is still slightly speculatory. We mustn't have any speculation at all on the Wiki, so we can't take chances, no matter how small the risk is. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  16:03, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Wait, the date was confirmed, I believe. Well, that's that. @Minermatt122514, your predictions may have been correct, but without confirmation, were still speculation. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  16:12, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
I am not mad about your response. I understand the rule about speculation. As you said, winter for most people begins in December. If Mojang meant to refer to summer, they would have clarified that. You don't want to mislead people, that is bad marketing. It is obvious what they meant by winter. Also, the drop was called a "Vanilla Holiday Update." Merriam-Webster defines "The holidays" as, "the time from November until the beginning of January during which many holidays are celebrated." Mojang has released two updates that were referred to as a "holiday update" somewhere. The first one was Bedrock Edition 1.8.0 which released in December. The other one was the Buzzy Bees update which also released in December. From this, we can gather that calling it a "holiday update" means that it will release in December. The official announcement today has reinforced this point even further. Minermatt122514 (talk) 16:22, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Also, I would like to apologize for reverting edits that said the name of the drop was "The Garden Awakens." I didn't realize that they posted it on minecraft.net because no one was citing it or mentioning it in the edit description. Minermatt122514 (talk) 16:24, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
It's ok :) though, even if it's "obvious" (I'm not sure, exactly), that's still a little speculatory, as, by your evidence, it might well have been in January. I'm not saying figuring things out when possible is bad, but, again, we must be absolutely sure of our facts and can't take any chances whatsoever. Also, we coudn't have set the release date to "winter" per the style guide; again, winter for most of us is summer for a few of us. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  17:44, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
I'm nitpicking, but astronomically speaking, Winter (on the Northern hemisphere) is from December 21 until March 21, so December 3 would be outside of that. December 21/22 (winter solstice) is the generally accepted definition for "start of winter" in Germany at least, not sure about Sweden. | violine1101 (talk) 21:26, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
I think technically, astronomically, the solstice or equinox is the midpoint of a season, so the technical astronomical start of winter is, to my estimate, the seventh day of November, although that's probably incorrect. (Btw also over here in the USA the solstice is the official start of winter, I believe.)-~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  21:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

I'm not sure where to bring this up, because the actual snapshot page has the correct image. But for whatever reason, the image upon hovering on the link in this article is from 24w33a. Not sure how to fix that.

Is it me or the key art is inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas movie poster?

This is speculation, so we can't include anything of the sort on the article. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  01:03, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
