@Arina Why would this be needed to put at the top of the article? Seems like it's of no value to the reader to the reader and is a waste of valuable above-the-fold space on mobile. I do support a message box at the top of the talk page though. GIM Dianliang233 (talk) 10:17, 9 March 2025 (UTC)

Seems like it's of no value to the reader - why do you think so? IMO it's very valuable to the reader as they will know that this is one of the best articles on this wiki. Arina (she/her) 10:35, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
"featured" just means that the article is featured on the main page, it's not necessarily a permanent "award" for the article as it is on Wikipedia; we have too few articles for that.
If we were to add some template marking an article as featured, it should definitely not be a hatnote (we already tend to have way too many hatnotes) but instead either an icon (similar to protected icons) or a brief note at the bottom of the page. I'd personally prefer just having a category.
Side note: I chose the potato snapshot somewhat randomly just as an example for the main page draft and didn't really look at the quality of the article at all. | violine1101 (talk) 13:04, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
Responded to Arina comment before I read this response. I am think we should be careful of the terms we use. Perhaps Featured isn’t the right one to use if it’s being confused with what is commonly referred to as Featured in other wiki communities. -BrianGLHF (talk) 15:52, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
Where is this wiki’s definition of what makes an article “featured”? -BrianGLHF (talk) 15:49, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
I agree, having this as a hatnote is not a good solution. I like the idea if adding it as in indicator while the page is featured, but anything longer than that seems too much. -- 👁 Image

@Dianliang233 @violine1101 @MarkusRost; what do you think of the new version? Arina (she/her) 15:05, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
The message box is even bigger than the previous hatnote. I think just an indicator would be more than enough. -- 👁 Image
MarkusRost (talk) 15:15, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
What do you mean by indicator? Arina (she/her) 15:16, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
mw:Help:Page status indicators like the protection locks and language dropdown. -- 👁 Image
MarkusRost (talk) 15:18, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
Could you protect File:Featured_star.svg to autoconfirmed users? Arina (she/her) 15:38, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
All files are restricted to autoconfirmed. -- 👁 Image
MarkusRost (talk) 15:41, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
Editing them is not. Arina (she/her) 15:43, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
There is no reason to restrict editing the file page. -- 👁 Image

This is supposed to be included on the article's talk page right? If so, I do support the message box version of it. Status indicator would be too little to be noticed, but for the article's main page, is good enough as not to interrupt the readers. Outrowed (talk) 15:26, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
If an article is feature it could not mean it could have a badge for lifetime. There could be just a simple notice somewhere but not in the readable area, something that is only for the editors to see. NovaSquare (talk) 16:02, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
