Template talk:Welcome

Hello, I'm Robstar14. I ain't no shinin' star yet, but i will be!

anyways, I think we need a template to welcome users. the template would go on thier talk page. here are the contents at the moment.

== Welcome! == Hello, welcome to the minecraft wiki. heres some general guidelines to help you here!

• Please no vulgarity. this means sexual, racial slurs and swearing are not allowed.
• Sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes; a tilde it the squiggily... wavy davy... line. (~)
• Don't post ideas on talk pages. that goes on the forums.
• if an edit of yours is deleted, create a topic on the talk page to disscuss the removal.
• try to summarize your edits. the summary box is two lines above the save page box.
• use the show preview button, it is to the right of the save page button.
• do not speculate, thats for the IRC channel and the forums.
• Be nice, help others out and don't feel pressured to respond right away to messages and talk pages. I say any talk over 2 months old is unsafe to respond to. if the disscussion is stopped otherwise, then do not respond to it, leave it alone. This rant shouldn't have been made in the first place, but if so many people keep misusing the template on the talk page of users that actually aren't new to the wiki, then there has to be a template notice, perhaps even a restriction... – RedX 20:41, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

The issue is that there's no set time/number of edits that determines if a user is new. I typically dont use the template if the account is more than 5/6 months old, but I also wont use it if the account is made very recently but all edits are in the userspace. There definitely needs to be a "guideline" of sorts to allow proper use of this message 👁 Image

Discussion tools already does this automatically. Telling them to do it a second time will just make them add their signature two times instead of one. -- Eatyourglory   Talk   Edits  21:43, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

Discussion tools should prevent a second signature; it just replaces the autocompleted one. However, the behavior can be inconsistent sometimes (at least when the extension was first implemented; I'm not sure about right now). ‑‑MinecraftExp123^{(talk|contribs)} 23:48, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

thats why I added the bit about the reply button (aka discussion tools) doing it automatically a while ago :) (this reply has "~~~~" at the end, and does not have a double signature) 👁 Image
