How do I create or setup a pvp area or a safe zone and a warzone in my minecraft multiplayer server? I have no Bukkit or plugins or mods and want to try do it without plugins if it's possible, this is my first server too.

-Your post was badly misspelled, and remember to sign your posts with four tildes. Also, this is not a place to ask how to set up a server, it's to ask on how to improve the article. But, if you want a solution, use Bukkit and the Factions plugin. You can't do this vanilla style. See Tutorials/Setting up a server for help on how to set up a server. 173.206.188.202 23:29, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

I presume that this page has enough to get a newbie to the pro level... eventually. This mostly has enough to at least let them survive for a while, so I think that although this page shouldn't be finalized, I honestly think that the Need-your-help-work-in-progress template should be removed. 64.56.253.180 18:34, 8 December 2012 (UTC) (major contributor)

Added information on large battles, removed seriously incorrect information and terrible advice such as the statement that a stone pick with iron armor is weaker than a stone sword with none, in fact, the armored player would win with 3.33 hearts on average. Also, that fighting juggernauts with iron armor is better than running for your life. One should NEVER go iron sword vs. diamond everything. Potions and fire, maybe, but iron vs. Diamond is suicide.

Not necessarily, actually. It depends on how much skill you got. A stone sword deals a full heart of damage. 72.136.183.109 01:07, 16 January 2013 (UTC) (major contributor)

Hello, I just read this very good PvP guide. However, I think there might be some improvements for this. What I mean? Well, as far as I read this, you are mixing stuff together: Surviving alone and surviving with other players on your side. I really think this should be split. Also, how about sneaky attacks and spying out the enemy and backstabbing him? I really think this should be added here. 91.15.111.64 Who cares about my name?

You're suggestion is good, but I believe that the point of this guide is to survive no matter the cost (with some exceptions). It may somewhat have some sense to mix things up around due to the fact that this is far more difficult than hardcore mode due to the fact that you will die no matter what and that making it to the End in Hardcore Mode does not guarantee you'll be able to do the same here since, well, nearly everybody is your enemy. However, feel free to add things in and cut and move things around! :) 173.206.10.102 20:31, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Please rework this terrible mess

[edit source]
Latest comment: 23 March 20131 comment1 person in discussion

I know that there is a number of PvP servers out there, but this guide is just incoherent, full of redundancy, and 4/5th of the content is just blatantly obvious.

It would be nice if you could rework this thing to also give ideas about bases and the nature of PvP servers, not stopping to analyze "Hey, you use a sword to kill people!"Preceding unsigned by 99.34.207.215. Please sign your posts.

I've been contributing to this article for a long time, and it's supposed to help those that do NOT have experience with PvP. While you somewhat have a point, this is intended as a tutorial, not an extension for after you deprived everybody of their diamonds. Not everything is obvious and in coherent. Keep in mind, this is not to give ideas, but this actually contains advice I personally found very useful when I started out. 174.114.8.167 12:39, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

This just...how do I put it, looks like one of those game guides that was written by one person, not any type of encyclopedic article. And honestly...not a good one. I know it's a tutorial but seriously, abandon encyclopedic conduct? JDHuff185 00:18, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

It's intended mostly as a tutorial, and even though I was writing most of the page myself, it's not really supposed to be encyclopedic, mainly on the fact I don't understand how it could be. Could you please suggest a little more on how it can be encyclopedic without giving the player clues on having advantages over other players via exploiting? 173.206.74.102 19:29, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I've gotta agree. This is sort of (okay, really) not like an encyclopedic article. Although admittedly, I am a pretty bad PVPer myself, I personally think that this is not close to any encyclopedia. Really, what I don't like is the packs or "trooper" thing. Any server can have different packs or armor for certain roles of the team, and is no where close to each other. "Shock trooper"!? First, not everyone might call it shock trooper, and different servers may have different ideas on what a "shock trooper" is. The fact that it's listing which equipment to use, or really what TYPES of soldiers are there, is not exactly good, because many servers may have more, different things or roles that may not have been put on this list. And, most of these packs are made by server admins or mods themselves, anyway. We don't have choices in game to magically get given a full set of iron armor and a horse.

Many servers have different views on what "sky wars" is, or have different ways to play it or even NEW ways to play it. This page shouldn't cover all of those, I guess. It should cover good ways to do stuff, good strategies, good tips and what to use against who. Willingham yAAOz (talk) 01:44, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

This page needs help. The page doesn't seems to fit with the other pages on the wiki because the page is mostly "talking" to the reader. Some of the information is false (telling players to hack to get OP effects? I edited that out!) I also don't like how it has words in all capital letters (ex. FLEE!) Also, building a base is an entirely new tutorial! Please re-do this page. SchobbishBot3000 (talk) 02:37, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Really in my opinion it conveys the message much better then the usual way as this is more of a opinion subject then fact unlike mob farms and which is most effecient design wise. While you say that the murderer set is say "hey lets hack the game" the reason I didn't edit out is because it does say what CAN counter it which is a need to know info as people can, will, and Do hack on servers. Also hacking was stated to get you most likely banned from the server. (so i'm gonna replace that section just a general mini section about how come hacking is not a bright idea and how to "hopefully" kill the hacker. Feel free to add to it as i have not really seen any hackers on the servers i play on) The biulding the base is completely unrelated and instead feature a link. Though i do think somewhere there should be a list of most needed materials to keep in stock so if anyone can find a spot please add it in. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Warion36 (talkcontribs) 04:27, 10 December 2013 (UTC). Of course, you might think that it's nice and that everyone will like you for contributing, but you're being so cheesy! This is a wiki, that means you should get information about whatever you're looking for and just that! Not someone wanting a bunch of fame and whatever... Seriously.. Signatures are just no-no. You're contributing to a wiki. Do you see this on any other wiki? This is stupid. Just stop. Also don't add "SIGNATURES ARE OK BECAUSE UMM.. THEY GIVE US CREDIT CUZ WE WORKED HARD" Yea, no. I wrote a ton on the wiki, had no plans to make signatures, just a fellow PvPer trying to share his pvp strats, and then I accidentally press back on the mouse. Just.. Stop please. Latest comment: 4 February 20143 comments2 people in discussion

Whoa dude. No offense, this article doesn't talk about PvP anymore, it talks about Factions and Survival. If you want to make a wiki page for that, fine. (I am currently working on a hunger games page too!) Finally, I know you put in too much heart into this because from this, I can infer you love factions so you might as well just tell some stuff and not too much information/TMI. I am trying to be kind and I hope this helps. (Forgot to add some signing things, sorry!)--EagleWarior (talk) 11:11, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Agreed; this article is getting excessively long, and should be specifically about PvP on vanilla servers. If someone wants a page about PvP on servers with specific mods/plugins installed, that belongs in a separate article. -- Orthotopetalk 20:37, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

PROTECT the page for admins only

[edit source]
Latest comment: 5 September 20144 comments3 people in discussion

There's people like A.E.23 and Epicalexyang who are completely griefing the page. I think admins only is a good idea. Epic won't stop adding signatures same with A.E.23 and keeps reverting my edits removing hacked clients. Recognize hacked clients? What? That's way, WAY low for someone to lose. Point is, 14 day block for both of users and a Warning will do the trick. And, he hates me for removing hacked clients. LOL here look-> http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/User_talk:Bob99090900O Plus, look at the item sets he posted. Medic? Pyro? He is making it into a TF2 minecraft page, making look like all servers are "kitpvp". I don't think this is true. So, put page to admins only will stop grief reverts, and inappropriate spam he put on the page just for me. Forgot to sign sorry. Bob99090900O (talk) 01:35, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

The "block ae23 and epic" idea is good, but I don't think this page should be protected yet. Maybe semi or edits pending approval would be better. 73.188.111.16 01:27, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Update: I removed the items like Diamond Legion, but then I reverted that. Think I should've left all that to the admins, or held a vote, or something like that. However, I still think Epic and his friend should be blocked and their "TF2" and "Diamond Legions" Removed. 73.188.111.16 19:54, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Um, the TF2, Epicalexyang and Diamond Legion stuff are okay. Just put them on a different section. 49.148.167.243 10:42, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. We need to delete the whole factions thing. We may need everyone in the Minecraft community to contribute some PvP tips of their own because everyone has different tips (such as the "Things Not to Do" Tutorial. This is the link: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Things_not_to_do). We can also add some popular PvP mini-games and talk about the basics of them and how to play (such as the Hunger/Survival Games). --EagleWarior (talk) 11:16, 4 February 2014 (UTC) EagleWarior

Should we redo this?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 21 December 20157 comments5 people in discussion

Firstly I apologize, this is my first time using a wiki, probably screwed it up.

I wanted to say that this page is an absolute mess. It is written like an email instead of an encyclopedia, and mostly contains thoroughly useless information. Do we need 50 different kits you shouldn't PVP with? I know that it is important to be thorough but wouldn't it be enough to simply say "Make sure you have adequate amour, weapons, and other resources to win a fight before participating in one? The idea of kits seems a bit excessive to me, I think it would be easy enough to list certain items and how they can be useful in a fight. It also barely mentions some very important parts of pvp such as blockhitting, strafing (particularly the difference between left and right), comboing, and wobble sprinting (or whatever they call it now). And that is just with sword.

I personally recommend splitting it into a few sections:

Tactics (is there a better word for this?):

  • Blockhitting
  • Critting
  • Strafing
  • Comboing
  • Wobblesprinting
  • Bowspamming
  • etc.

Items:

  • Sword
  • Armour
  • Potions
  • etc.

Common types of PvP:

  • Kit PvP
  • Hunger games
  • etc.

You get the point.

My question is, is it worth wiping out most of what we have now with the intent of making it better? I know some pretty good PvPers and I might be able to get them on it too.

174.5.15.17 01:31, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

I agree it would be good to redo this article, although some of this stuff is still useful. If you are to rewrite it, make sure to check for good content from here as well.
I would also suggest writing the new version in a sandbox then importing it when finished though (you will likely need an account for that, and one is overall better if you are rewriting an entire article). Other than that, remove mentions of hacked/creative only tactics.
--KnightMiner (t|c) 01:55, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, this article has been a mess for a while. I'd be happy to see it rewritten with more focus on specific tactics and equipment. I don't think the lists of predefined kits are needed, especially as most of them are impractical to obtain, if not completely impossible, calling for more items than can fit in a player's inventory. Aside from the kits, most of the content is decent, though some could use rewriting. Also, it might be worth splitting this into two articles, one on individual PvP combat, and the other on the larger strategies of assaulting and defending bases. -- Orthotopetalk 02:30, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

This article currently suffers from way too many "ideal" classes and few actual classes. The problem is too many people like designing classes who have never actually played PvP, or only play on extremely obsure servers. I have tried nuking the entire section several times in the past (as this tutorial should be about how to fight and arm yourself, not what might be provided for you), but I never had enough consensus. My ping is pretty low, but I still get wrecked in multiplayer

[edit source]
Latest comment: 18 July 20191 comment1 person in discussion

Idk why, but whenever I play a pvp game on Hypixel, my opponents can usually hit me from a much farther distance than I can hit them. Sometimes, they're even able to hit me from 5+ blocks away. I'm fairly confident that they're not hacking, but it's still a little confusing why sometimes they get long strings of hits on me and I can do nothing to counter it. As said before, my ping is pretty low (52ms, but it's the server's side that's lagging not mine) and whenever I play a game that tracks my hit accuracy, my aim is typically higher than my opponent's.

What am I doing wrong? Where should I look for pvp tips to improve? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Cable1212 (talkcontribs) at 15:34, 18 July 2019 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Possible answer: Your opponent may be W-tapping, as that gives the illusion of longer reach when chained for long enough. An effective way of countering this is S-tapping or strafing in a circle to break the W-tapping chain.

Latest comment: 19 February 20201 comment1 person in discussion

I know this talk page is mostly dead (6-year-old edits aren't encouraging), but this page could become a whole lot better if it was rewritten or even nuked and written from scratch. In its current state, the page is too conversational and informal. It could be shifted towards the third-person and formalized (I just cleaned up most of the "6.1 Attack Tactics" section, and shifted it to be overall more formal and general) and also organized into more general categories. A lot of the information is highly specific, or directed towards one type of player/server. This page can be brought to a style-guide compliant form, truly worthy of Wikipedia, but the legion of Minecraft Wiki editors need to see this page and help. I'm just one IP editor - with schoolwork and a life. I can't do this alone.

TLDR: This page is (somewhat) fixable - we the editors either get it fixed or we get it nuked.

People have said this so much, and even though it is SO much better than 2 years ago, it needs work. I'm gonna go through this with a fine toothcomb and try to make it better. I also know a thing or two about larger-scale PvP encounters, so I might add stuff on that too.

PVP deserves a wiki of its own

[edit source]
Latest comment: 12 June3 comments3 people in discussion

Minecraft PVP is far too complex, intricate, and variable to be properly described in an article or two. Because of this, I believe that the most proper and effective course of action would be to create an entirely new wiki; this current one is not structured effectively enough to efficiently allow: people to explain the theoretical and logical foundation of PVP mechanics, items, and actions; compile an expansive list of them; and explain the applications of them. The modern Java PVP community is somewhat centralized around a set of gamemode-specific Discord servers as well as mcpvp.club and the MCTiers tier list, making the contributions to and support for the new wiki a matter of introducing it to that community. Creating a PVP wiki would likely help with the problem of this page's coherence while allowing the relevant community to establish a central knowledge bank (which the modern PVP community lacks at this point), giving players like me another valuable pathway to learning and improving. ~2026-TaigaBreezeChorus2788 (talk) 20:37, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Any pages you want to be on a PvP wiki would probably fit in the Tutorial namespace. I’d recommend some attempt to make those pages here before requesting an entire wiki. We (with Weird Gloop) wouldn’t do that until there is a clear set of users that would be dedicated to said wiki and reasoning for why these pages cannot work in the Tutorial namespace.
I’m guessing you’re thinking of something like Smash Wiki, which would be really cool, but creating a whole new wiki is a big deal that can’t be done lightly. - Harri / Talk 👁 Image

Completely agree. An entirely new wiki would be an extremely large and difficult undertaking and the page right now suffers more from massive chunks of text and failure to comply with the style guide than lack of information. file:///Chiseled_Polished_Blackstone_JE1_BE1.png Thornlock 09:52, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Why is the section for spear PvP only no-eltra spear PvP and with-elytra spear PvP is under, of all things, Mace PvP? That seems very silly.

--FeedbackBot 19:58, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
Elytra-spear with no mace is not an commonly practiced recognised kit type, this list of kits is meant to represent kits used in tier testing and ones that are commonly recognised and practiced. Grounded spear (in Spear PvP section) and spear mace (in Mace PvP section) are the commonly practiced ones due to their practicality. The "this kit can also include X" section for spear mace explicitly states that an elytra is sometimes also included, which covers the version of spear-elytra that is officially recognised (the one that also includes a mace). Hopefully this clears things up. SeaOfPixels (talk) 21:07, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
