The Onett Public Library is a location in EarthBound, serving a somewhat important role in the game's plot. It is located in the north of Onett, and is the first building south of Ness's house.
The characters in the library mostly serve a tutorial role, explaining various game mechanics like hotels, ATMs, phones, and Magic Butterflies.
The library contains two important items: the Town map and the Overcoming Shyness book. The town map can be obtained as soon as the library is accessible from the librarian at the front desk. Later in the game, Ness has a task to help the Tenda tribe overcome their shyness. Apple Kid is revealed to have borrowed it, as stated by Orange Kid through a call in Deep Darkness after the party learns the Tenda tribe's shyness problem, however he was captured and taken to Stonehenge Base. After being rescued, he explains he had returned it to the library, allowing Ness to return to the library to borrow it.
