Twoson is a town in EarthBound. It is located in the region of Eagleland, being south of Onett. To the east of the town is Happy Happy Village and southeast is the town of Threed. Twoson is the hometown of Paula. Many of the buildings within the city have an old-western like style in architecture. Twoson has a population of 3,711 people and one dog, and has an average temperature of 72Β°F.[1]

The word two is present in its name as a reference to how it is the second town visited in the game. Its name may also be a pun on the real-life city of Tucson, Arizona and Towson, Maryland.

Overview

Twoson is located south of Onett. Paula lives in the Polestar Preschool that can be found in the town, and it is run by Paula's parents, Isabella and Paul Jones. Twoson is one of two cities in the game to feature a multi-story Department store. The cycle shop, Punk-Sure, is found between the hotel and department store towards the north of the town, the owner will allow Ness to rent a Bicycle for free. Additionally, the Photo-Man will also take a picture of Ness if he tries to go inside the cycle shop. Further up north is the city's local hospital.

South of the town are two young inventors named Orange Kid and Apple Kid respectively. Apple Kid has a poor reputation among some citizens while Orange Kid is a famous inventor. Ness can choose to invest in both of them. Orange Kid rewards him with the Super Orange Machine, which breaks upon using, while Apple Kid gives the Pencil Eraser needed to progress.

The east exit of town leads to Peaceful Rest Valley. South is a long road leading south and west, which then turns east into Two Three Tunnel leading to Threed.

Burglin Park

Main article: Burglin Park

Burglin Park is a large park located in the center of town. Inside the park are several sellers who sell items such as condiments, foods, and equipment. The Park has a reputation of recent criminal activity due to the boss, Everdred, living in the park.

Chaos Theater

Another attraction for the city is Chaos Theater, found east of Polestar Preschool. The theater is most known for the famous bluesmen known as Runaway Five's regular performances. In the past, many other bands used to perform but only the Runaway Five remain in the present day.

Geography

Twoson is primarily surrounded with trees and mountains. According to the EarthBound Player's Guide, Twoson has a very mild climate and is sunny year-round. Many trees are found in the north towards Onett, and to the west of town. The south and east are bordered with hills and mountains. To the east is Peaceful Rest Valley, which is the only way to access Happy Happy Village.

History

After taking on the Onett Police force, Captain Strong orders the barriers south of Onett to be removed to allow Ness to travel to Twoson. When Ness arrives at the town, he goes to Polestar Preschool. Here, he learns the owners' daughter, Paula, had a dream about Ness. Paula was revealed to have been missing, with her father suspecting Everdred to be involved with her disappearance. If Ness decides to rest in the hotel of the town, he receives a message in a dream that Paula was kidnapped. Upon leaving, he notices Paula's father running in panic while calling out to her to have a piece of pie. Should Ness visit Burglin Park, he will be engaged in a battle with Everdred. After Everdred loses the fight, he states that Paula was kidnapped by the Happy Happyists and her whereabouts are in Happy Happy Village. Ness then goes on a journey to rescue her, but his progress is blocked by an iron pencil-shaped statue. Back in town he helps the child inventor Apple Kid by investing in him, and as a reward receives his invention, the Pencil Eraser, which will erase the pencil statue.

After rescuing Paula, he returns to town and receives the Wad of bills from Everdred. With Paula, he visits the Chaos Theater where Nice of the Runaway Five rewards him with a Backstage pass. The two watch their performance, and afterwards visits the band backstage. Ness learns how the band was tricked into going into a large debt and decides to help. He goes to the theater's runner, Mr. Poochyfud, and pays off the debt the band amassed to the theater. The band, ecstatic about their freedom, allows Ness and Paula to ride with them to the town of Threed.
