Spectacular mountainous area rising to some 3000 m from Palombe Plain. (750 m) and extending over 640 kmยฒ.

There are several areas of bauxitization on Mlanje but the only potentially economic ones are on the Lichenya Plateau in the SW of the complex. Reserves of 50-60 million tons averaging 43% Alโ‚‚Oโ‚ƒ, 14% Feโ‚‚Oโ‚ƒ and 17% free quartz ave been proved (Garson & Walshaw 1969).
