The ore bodies occur mainly in the form of veins followed by net veins. The strike direction of the ore bodies is 80–120°, with dip direction towards S or W and dip angles of 75–88°. From south to north, there are No.52 Pb-Zn mineralized zone, No.31-32 Ag-Pb-Zn mineralized zone, No.7 Cu-Ag-Au mineralized zone, No.11 Ag polymetallic mineralized zone, No.42-41 Pb-Zn polymetallic mineralized zone, and No.17 Ag-Pb mineralized zone contain 6.9 Mt @ 187.23 g/t Ag, 1.657% Pb, and 3.956% Zn.
Three stages of the hydrothermal mineralization have been identified, including quartz-pyrite-arsenopyrite stage (I), quartz-galena-sphalerite-sulfosalt stage (II), and quartz-carbonate stage (III).

The Kuli Formation consists of volcanoclastic sedimentary rocks, including tuff, slate, and phyllite, served as the main ore-hosting rock. The Shangshi Formation comprises metamorphic tuffaceous siltstone and phyllitic slate, with minor occurrences of siliceous dolomite. Among them, siliceous dolomite serves as the ore-hosting rock for stratabound Pb–Zn mineralization in the Yudu area. The Shahuangba Formation comprises metamorphic conglomerate and pebbled sandstone. The Permian strata uncomfortably overlie the basement, and consist of sandstone, carbonaceous shale, and carbonate. The Luoao Formation consists of rift-basin deposits, starting with conglomerate at the base and gradually transitioning to sandstone and purple silty mudstone upwards. As of 2016, more than 42 Ag–Pb–Zn orebodies have been found at Niuxingba, occurring in forms such as vein, lentoid, striped, and pod-like type, along nearly EW-trending faults. Based on the obvious change in metal content from north, where Ag–Au polymetallic mineralized zones (e.g., V41–V42 and V10–V13) are present, to south, where Au mineralized zones (e.g., V7–V6 and V31–V32) dominate, these orebodies have been delineated into five groups of mineralization zones.
