SDL 2.0.2 Released With Mir & Wayland Support
As some other exciting Linux gaming news this morning besides Valve open-sourcing their Direct3D to OpenGL translation layer and Crytek publicly confirming their Linux CryEngine port, the open-source community is out this week with SDL 2.0.2.
SDL 2.0.2 presents some new API additions, EGL support for creating/managing OpenGL and OpenGL ES 1.x/2.x contexts, improved full-screen support, and experimental Wayland/Mir support. The Wayland and Mir back-ends are disabled by default with this initial release but can be easily enabled at build-time and will likely be enabled soon enough. The Mir support for SDL2 had landed just last month. Development of SDL2 has been heating up with the Steam Runtime relying upon it and more professional game studios relying upon this very useful library.
More details on the SDL 2.0.2 changes can be found via the official release announcement.
