Intel's Clear Linux Demonstrates Software Optimization Benefits On AMD EPYC 9005 Series
Out of dozens of benchmarks, Clear Linux came in first place half of the time followed by Ubuntu 25.04 with first place finishes just 19% of the time.
AlmaLinux 9.5 was in last place most of the time, to no real surprise given the age and maturity of the RHEL9 software stack. Thankfully Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.0 (RHEL 10) will be debuting soon for a fresh take on enterprise Linux and should be at more of an equal footing to the likes of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
When taking the geometric mean of all the benchmarks that ran successfully on all tested Linux distributions from this AMD EPYC 9755 2P server, Clear Linux easily took the top spot. Intel's Clear Linux distribution was 6% faster than Ubuntu 25.04, which was running with the "performance" governor like the rest. Or compared to the current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release, the in-house Intel Linux distribution was 23% faster. Ubuntu and other Linux distributions continue moving performance in the right direction but Intel's Clear Linux continues to deliver the fastest out-of-the-box Linux x86_64 experience as we approach the middle of 2025.
