First up were the web browser benchmarks on Ubuntu Linux and the Ryzen AI 5 340 was off to a nice start. The Ryzen AI 5 340 within the HP OmniBook 5 was offering similar performance in the Speedometer benchmark on Firefox to the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 365 laptops... Not too surprising with the browser benchmarks mostly being single-threaded. The Lunar Lake laptops delivered the best performance-per-Watt in this test followed immediately by Krackan Point joining the Strix Point laptops.

The Ryzen AI 5 340 was outperforming the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen6 often with its Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360. As covered earlier this summer that ThinkPad T14s G6 has a very conservative power default which is why its performance was so low relative to the other AMD Ryzen AI 300 series laptops.

For web browser workloads on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox from Ubuntu Linux, the Ryzen AI 5 340 within the HP OmniBook 5 was offering comparable performance to the more expensive AMD Strix Point / Strix Halo and Intel Lunar Lake laptops.

For under $500 the HP OmniBook 5 with Ryzen AI 5 340 was offering nice performance that was comparable to the more expensive AMD Ryzen AI and Intel Core Ultra laptops. But let's continue on to see how well this ~$450 laptop with Linux performs in the more demanding workloads.
