One of the application updates with Debian 13 is moving from Zstd 1.5.4 to Zstd 1.5.7, which can bring some performance optimizations for those dealing with Zstandard compression. With the tests carried out between Debian 12 and Debian 13 using the packaged version of Zstd, there were some decent uplifts in the performance for the newer package though decompression performance at the highest compression level slightly behind.

For those making use of the GraphicsMagick program for manipulating images from the command line, Debian 13 brings in GraphicsMagick 1.4. The new GraphicsMagick release paired with the Debian 13 base operating system improvements and newer compiler yielded some solid gains on this AMD EPYC server.

When compiling SVT-AV1 3.0 from source on each Debian Linux release, Debian 13 was typically delivering some small but consistent improvements.

The x265 encoder as shipped by Debian moved from v3.5 to v4.1 with Debian 13 and in turn yielded some nice uplift. Meanwhile when compiling x264 4.1 on both Debian 12/13 there wasn't much change.
