Those wanting to go through even more benchmarks -- around 200 in total -- from all of these Linux laptops I've tested on Ubuntu 25.04 with Linux 6.14, you can see all my raw performance and power data via this result page.

When taking the geometric mean of all the CPU benchmarks that ran successfully on all tested laptops/configurations, it was quite interesting for the ThinkPad P1 Gen 8. The Core Ultra 7 255H at its defaults saw similar performance to the Lunar Lake laptops tested. But as we've seen from other Lenovo ThinkPads as well the default (balanced) profile can be conservative for power and thermal reasons. When putting the ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 in its "performance" profile, the performance really shot up. In the performance mode the Core Ultra 7 255H was coming just ahead of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 in the Framework 13 for this mix of single and multi-threaded workloads. But remaining in a distant first place lead were the AMD Strix Halo powered Ryzen AI Max 390 and Ryzen AI Max+ 395 SoCs found with the HP ZBook Ultra G1a.

When looking at the CPU power consumption over the entire duration of the ~200 benchmarks run, the Core Ultra 7 255H at the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 defaults had a 29.4 Watt average and a peak of 111 Watts. In the performance profile the Core Ultra 7 255H SoC power shot up to a 52.6 Watt average and a 121 Watt peak. In the performance profile the averages and peak were greater than that of the AMD Strix Halo SoCs tested. In the balanced profile the Core Ultra 7 255H was more power hungry than the similar-performing Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 within the Framework 13 with a 23 Watt average and 50 Watt peak.

That's the initial look at the Intel Core Ultra 7 255H "Arrow Lake H" CPU performance under Linux with Ubuntu 25.04 across all tested laptops. Stay tuned for the full ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 Linux review shortly on Phoronix and thanks to Lenovo for sending over this laptop for Linux testing.
