Not all workloads are obviously impacted by the newer kernel versions. With Blender CPU-based 3D rendering for example was just fractions of a second better performance with each major kernel upgrade.

There are some exceptions to the typical user-space applications like the BRL-CAD open-source CAD software did still manage to deliver incrementally better performance when running Linux 6.17 Git compared to prior kernels.

When measuring the time to compile different open-source projects, running the newer versions of the Linux kernel on this AMD EPYC Milan-X server did provide some small speed-ups without any increased power use.
