AMD Ryzen 9 9900 Series Linux Performance Since Launch
With more than 360 Linux benchmarks conducted for this launch day vs. mid-2025 comparison, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X continued to lead. Even on a geo mean basis the Ryzen 9 9900X was still coming out ahead of the Core Ultra 9 285K. With this big geo mean comparison the Core Ultra 9 285K gained about 6% better performance on Linux since launch last year while the Ryzen 9 9950X increased by less than 2%. Not really surprising given Intel's P / E core struggles on Linux at the time and with the Ryzen 9 9950X performing much faster overall than the Intel competition. With this state as of Ubuntu 25.04, the Ryzen 9 9950X was 18% faster than the Core Ultra 9 285K with this modern Ubuntu Linux 25.04 stack.
For CPU power consumption the numbers for the Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X were largely unchanged since last year's launch data.
Overall the AMD Ryzen 9000 series continues delivering great Linux desktop performance with any modern Linux distribution.
