It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting., cyberpunkCyberpunk focuses on computers or information technology, usually coupled with some degree of breakdown in social order. The plot often centres on a conflict among hackers, artificial intelligences, and mega corporations, tending to be set within a near-future dystopian Earth., mechaMecha in Japanese basically means mechanical things; everything from an electric whisk or a car to a spaceship or a robot. Here however we limit it to the more exotic things usually referred to as mecha anime: robots, whether controlled by a human or not, and their ilk., newNot based on anything, the story is a new work, usually made up by the people involved in creating the anime. Short BGC
The year is 2033, and Mega-Tokyo is just beginning to recover from a devastating earthquake that completely rearranged the face of Tokyo. Part of the recovery is due to the recent advancement in Boomer technology. Boomers are androids that look, think, and act almost like human beings. They can be put to work, perform as soldiers in the military, or mysteriously go berserk and terrorise the population.

The corporation responsible for all the major Boomer advancements is a monolithic company called GENOM. But GENOM has a rather underhanded secret agenda — to take over the world. With the world dependent on Boomer technology, there does not seem to be much that can stand in GENOM's way.

Only a mercenary team of four young women, the Knight Sabers, equipped with hardsuits, have the courage and the firepower to stand up to rampaging Boomers and the company behind them.

Black Magic M-66 and Bubble Gum Crisis go hand in hand. Both had futuristic/cyberpunk overtones. While M-66 didn't have awesome music its sound effects were incredible. It wasn't just a feast for your eyes but it sounded like you were there in the fight. These two shows were part of a small set of shows that defined Japanimation for a whole generation.

Nice backgrounds, a lot of work put into the OST. The show does a few things that I’ve only seen from shows younger than BC, and overall a fun time, while it never gets too serious or impactful for the viewer.

For those of us who watched Anime in the late 80s this was one of a handful of shows that defined what Japanimation was. It set the bar high. The music was great, and the action was intense. Even with Japanese vocals and no subtitles it sucked you in and made you want to see more even though you had little real idea what that plot was. I wish there were more shows like this today. Gritty/hardcore with good music.

There is one other reason to give this series a serious viewing: an amazing soundtrack. Unlike most anime before this one, music was secondary. In this anime, the music is an essential component that sets the tone for each of the 8 50-minute OVAs. This anime set a new standard for incorporating music into the story; a thing which has become rather more common these days.
The soundtrack, especially the vocal songs, is pure 80s, but many of the songs stand the test of time. If you are lucky enough to obtain The Complete Vocal Collection, you will have 3 CDs of great songs.

A quintessential classic 80's cyberpunk story, complete with excellent production values for its time, a decent imaginative story (for its time), 80's rock, 80's hair, and horrible acting. The show really didn't age very well, but while watching it, it's easy to see how this show influenced its themes and genres in numerous shows throughout the 90's. Not so much a benchmark as it is a snapshot of the progression of numerous different sci-fi and cyberpunk themes over the years. Though entertaining, I can only consider this show must-see for those who wish to consider themselves well-versed in the anime genre overall.

Full of eye candy, great action sequences, colorful designs, intricate mechanical designs and really well developed characters, all mixed with a gritty look at the future and a deep analysis of where humanity is heading for. a must watch!

Bubblegum Crisis drowns cybernetic fertility with cop cringe . Both cult and obnoxious, the best aesthetic and cyberpunk trappings (in spite of itself) have mostly been distilled into other more seminal works (System Shock, Evangelion).

Like most 80s vigliante/cop genre works, it stages the clash of virtue and pathology. Just as typically, the disavowed pathologies are more imaginative, vivid and compelling. It's usually the villains, imagery and horror that relieves the OVA series and the music is either excellent or numbing cheese. It suffers most from cloying, sycophantic genre homages and complicated misogyny. Cliiches come in a font, too rarely interrupted by the vignettes of inexorable silicon horror. Circuits reimagine cities, robots penetrate computers as trees and make rippling metal bark, wheeled quadrupeds kebab humans and immolate them, and laughing nonhuman intelligence traps humans in elevator shafts and calls lightning from orbital satellites like Zeus.

It could all be possible - but ultimately the anime succumbs to its own softcore, chaste interest in the female form - how it is dressed, undressed, sapphic adjacent or memorialized in biker leather or heeled cybernetic armor. The toneless attempt to invent cyberpunk female-coded chivalry should not always mask that somehow, some way it gave birth to somethings more ready and more ominous.

As a lover of both hand-drawn animation and all things cyberpunk, it was only natural that I end up watching this someday. Bubblegum Crisis is exactly that.

This thing's GORGEOUS. Produced over a number of years where big hand-drawn structures were just the thing, Bubblegum Crisis takes in all its times have to offer and spits out an impressive vision of a Mega Tokyo with massive buildings, each densely covered with all kinds of futuristic little things. While not all scenes boast the same amount of detail, it's overall a very impressive hand-drawn art on display here. While the main characters don't appear too original and some might consider their looks dated, they're animated well and so do their job. On the other hand, boomers, the local word for androids, while not the most original in their designs, have a pleasantly generous amount of detail to them. There is a certain sci-fi sensibility among many of the late 80s/early 90s shows, and it's on full display here. If you like massive structures, walls of computers with thousands of screens, blinking lights, keyboards, pipes, etc. everywhere, well, you're gonna love Bubblegum Crisis' art. I know I do.

10/10

if the art of this can be recognized as genuinely great by most folks, then music might be a bit trickier subject to judge so simply. to put it mildly, it's 80s as fuck, mostly the pop kind of 80s, too. however, I'd take it over brostep and its derivations any time of the day. there's also that undeniable energy and charm that the music adds to the show, which is largely responsible just for how entertaining it feels.

the sound department is less subjective and more objectively lacking. there's sometimes a weird disconnect, where there's loud music blasting away with full action on display. but where modern ear expects a big sound of explosion or impact, it only finds the next measure of the synth-bass marching ever on.

at least the VAs are good. I particularly found Priss' voice particularly delicious. it had some quality that I don't hear too often in the modern anime, but I've drifted off in the dangerously subjective territory, tread carefully.

7/10 for sheer energy and the feeling of entertainment

but feeling is not enough for entertainment, there has to be something going on, too. Bubblegum Crisis delivers big time on the action front, periodically pulling out more boomers and villains for the continuation of the spectacle. the pacing is pretty good, with a dull moment nowhere to be seen. however, the story is still arguably the weakest part of the whole thing. there are two main reasons for this.

1. fundamentally episodic. Bubblegum Crisis is vaguely tied together with its cast, setting and the typical concepts doing battle (corruption and corporations vs the good mercenaries), however, there is no grand plot overarching the whole thing, no grand revelations, no great explorations of some interesting cyberpunk concepts. although some moments do have some conceptual interest, the exploration is nowhere near on the same level as the big guns of sf anime.

the episodic nature also prevents it from having any sort of notable closure for the whole series, outside the normal episode closures. there's an overabundance of loose ends, implied relationships, secrets and concepts, that never go anywhere beyond their episodic significance. bit of a shame.

2. convenient storytelling. this is the biggest crime Bubblegum Crisis makes. while it never truly tries to be something fundamentally more than "we're still just girls in power suits" kinda thing, the amount of last moment saves, convenient coincidences and timely reinforcements is ridiculously high, making the otherwise very atmospheric and impressive presentation feel all for naught. it's not quite on the level of your average "scream for power-up" shounen, but sometimes it treads dangerously close, and I can't but feel disappointed at the lack of a more serious and thoughtful resolutions of conflicts.

HOWEVER, the whole thing was still ridiculously atmospheric, energetic and entertaining, even if it didn't live up to level of its own presentation.
6/10

Part of the entertainment definitely is the cast, however, it's actually pretty far from strong. The cast is, at best, "cute", at worst, "stereotypical", but, hey, these were the 80s. Most characters seem fairly one-sided at first, with their minor quirks responsible for their input on the character chemistry, however, there's actually some character development for most of the mains, even if some it's purely implied. All of the mains are adults, too, which is another awesome feature that I don't get to see enough these days in anime.

The big crime in character department is the cartoonish villains. While some were pretty cool on paper - cold-blooded, awesome and complex - in actual execution they mostly come off as cackling bad maniacs, the most trivial kind, too. Had the corporate evil a more coherent and indecipherable appearance, it would've boosted the show tremendously.
Alas, what we have are cute girls in power suits versus androids of various shapes and sizes.

6/10

Despite the criticism, the big fat 10 in the art department, and the sheer energy of the whole thing makes this for a fairly awesome experience. If you like cyberpunk corporate android mega tokyo action, this is a very worthwhile stop, even if as a mere feast for the eyes.

Enjoyment 8/10

This anime used to be huge back when it first aired by encompassing all the best elements of 80s cyberpunk. It was almost a flagship title at a time when anime were still fairly niche in America and everyone was watching tame sitcom cartoons. It was in a way the Neon Genesis or Ghost in the Shell of the 1980s, or the Psycho Pass of the 2010s. Historical importance aside, nowadays it is closer to a skeleton of a good story, since it had lots of good ideas but didn’t do much with them.

In terms of production values it holds up pretty well. Made at a time when everything was hand-drawn with multiple layers of shading, it doesn’t become instantly aged as the CGI monstrocities of today. The world is also your standard sci-fi dystopia, the claustrophobic high-tech megacity almost all sci-fi stories depict so it’s easy to dig it if you are used to that sort of setting. The heroines have the “80’s anime look” (huge eyes, Barbie-like hairstyles), which can seem weird compared to the far more down to earth sceneries. The battles don’t have much choreography and body movements tend to be choppy. Animation is average at best. Also there is a rather high amount of fan service, as 80% of the cast is pretty girls undressing or moving around in underwear several times per episode/OVA.

Voice acting is decent but not great. The music themes have some powerful pieces and in fact this series has the honor of being the first title to use voice actors both for voicing characters and singing the songs (Priss).

The plot is rather typical. There is crime, corruption and crazed androids running around in a futuristic city. Laugh all you want at their name being Boomers that can’t adjust in a high-tech society. The normal police have their hands full, until a group of vigilante super chicks, called the Knight Sabers, storm in and save the day. Their identities are hidden, their motives are unknown. So far, the story is like watching Batman. But under the surface, every girl has its reasons for being in the team and there are several secrets behind the origin of the berserked robots. I make it sound much more interesting than it actually is, since both the plots and the revelations are fairly basic stuff. The animation studio had budget issues and couldn’t finish all the episodes it intended, thus it kept the plot almost episodic and open-ended. A later version did a better job at wrapping things up, but even then the finale was more silly than sad, with the girls being butt-naked as they fall down from space and resolving the conflict like it’s a naughty fairy-tale.

Nowadays, there is nothing fresh or exciting about it. It’s more of a nostalgic rule of cool type of title you watch for getting that 80s vibe that is completely absent today. The story is half-serious, the plot is loose or slow, the ending is open or silly. The main idea of the series is used in better ways elsewhere. Fan service wasn’t that great. Action scenes weren’t that great. I can’t recommend it as a must-watch classic.

In contrast with fixed-wing aircraft, this allows the helicopter to take off and land vertically, to hover, and to fly forwards, backwards, and laterally. These attributes allow helicopters to be used in congested or isolated areas where fixed-wing aircraft would not be able to take off or land. The capability to efficiently hover for extended periods of time allows a helicopter to accomplish tasks that fixed-wing aircraft and other forms of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft cannot perform.motorcycle (1)Entity is a motor vehicle with two wheels and a strong frame.police car (1)A police car is a ground vehicle used by police, to assist with their duties in patrolling and responding to incidents. Typical uses of a police car include transportation for officers to reach the scene of an incident quickly, to transport criminal suspects, or to patrol an area, while providing a high visibility deterrent to crime. Some police cars are specially adapted for certain locations (e.g. work on busy roads) or for certain operations (e.g. to transport police dogs or bomb squads).transforming craft (4)A transforming craft is an object built by humans or other intelligent lifeforms, usually a robot but sometimes also a vehicle of some sort, that can rearrange its parts in order to switch between a minimum of two forms.

22, female, 9.04 (10), armourno description set, cleverA clever or smart person is generally understood as having broad knowledge and the sharpness of mind required to put that knowledge to good use, especially when applying rational thought to long-reaching decisions, with the broad knowledge leaning more on the smart side and the sharp mind on the clever side. Unlike a genius, the clever person may be skilled, but only mundanely so, and in contrast to a cunning person, a clever person is not characterized by being sly or apt at surreptitiousness., earringAn earring is a piece of jewellery attached to the ear via a piercing in the earlobe or another external part of the ear (except in the case of clip earrings, which clip onto the lobe). Earrings are worn by both sexes, although more common among women, and have been used by different civilizations in different times., exposed midriffIn fashion, midriff is a term for the human abdomen. The midriff is exposed when wearing a crop top or some forms of swimwear., leadershipThe ability to lead skillfully., strategistA strategist is a person who can formulate and implement a strategy, or a high-level plan to achieve goals under conditions of uncertainty and through the available, limited means. Similarly, lower-level plan formulation and execution is generally the job of a tactician. For practical purposes, the scale and scope difference between strategy and tactics are ignored in this tag., young adultSomeone is generally considered a young adult if they are between 20 to 40 years old.
