Hour of Code: A Minecraft Tale of Two Villages, also known as Hour of Code: Inclusion, is a lesson in Minecraft Education. The map tells the story of two warring tribes, who the player are tasked with uniting through the power of code.
The player starts the game within the castle between the Villager and Illager Towns where a enchanting table book floats on the central pedestal. According to the book, the map is a tale of two villages, the Farming Villagers of the East and the Fishing Illagers of the West. Both had enough resources to thrive on and hence stopped communicating with each other, which escalated to fearing each other. Recently, the food resources of both towns started diminishing, the scarcity putting them at risk if no one could seek the help of another. After interacting with the book, the Caretaker spawns in a corner of the castle, who offers to choose between MakeCode blocks or Python as a coding method. The Caretaker then tasks the player to move the agent on top of a block of gold in front of a grass block. As a gift, the Agent offers a sapling which the player has to code in order to claim it. The player is then tasked to place the sapling on the grass block. The Caretaker explains that with every task completed, the tree resulting from the sapling will grow larger, eventually covering the entire castle as a symbol of unity and prosperity. The Caretaker then asks the player to stick with the current coding language or switch to the other, before gates of both towns open. The player is given the Ender Communicator, which they can use to teleport between towns, and can choose to travel to the Villager Town or the Illager Town.
A Minecraft Tale of Two Villages. For centuries, the Villagers and Illagers shared the same space but seldom interacted with each other. Now you can use the power of code to bring the two villages together. Players will experience empathy and compassion for their neighbors, learn cooperation and inclusion, and embrace the diversity that makes us all uniquely special.
