An artifact is an equippable item with a special ability that expends souls to be activated. This ability may involve harming enemies, applying a negative or positive effect to a target, or summoning a pet. Each hero can equip up to three artifacts at a time.
Each artifact expends a different quantity of souls, and cannot be used when below their minimum quantity. When the soul requirement is unmet, the artifact appears grayed out and cannot be used. Upon usage, artifacts trigger their innate ability over either a duration of time or instantly, after which they go on cooldown.
