wikipedia also has this message in their user warnings, so well, a consensus will be reached whether we should put this message or not, because, well, let's just say Steve wants edits the minecraft wiki while he's in a public place, well, he doesnt have an account yet, so he edits while logged out, then he gets notified and theres "PlEaSe StOp YoUr DiSrUpTiVe EdItInG" in his talk page while he was not the responsible person because it's a shared ip and someone used that ip to vandalize the wiki. the consensus will be reached in 1 month, and after 1 month, if more people 👁 Image

 Oppose. Canned messages feel cold and robotic and they don’t explain what actually went wrong and just throw generic text at people. It makes the wiki feel unwelcoming and can scare off new editors. Every situation is different, so it’s better to write something that explains the issue and points them in the right direction. It’s way more friendly and may actually helps users improve. 👁 Image

he wasnt referring to the user warning,he was referring to the text added to the user warning, "If this is a shared IP address and you did not make the edit(s) referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices." 62.210.173.115 12:45, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

I am referring to both parts. Even if they were only referring to the extra text being added. That extra text is still a canned text. 👁 Image

 Weak Oppose. I don't often see cases of IP ranges being wrongfully blocked from editing on this wiki. There are more IPs editing the highly active Wikipedia than here, and I never got wrongfully blocked while logged out compared to me on Wikipedia. Wiki activity by IPs and other complex criteria are what matters before we take IP-related decisions, so it's unlikely to have shared IP adresses on this exact wiki. 👁 Image

This isn't about IP ranges being wrongfully blocked, though. This is just extra text being added to the user warning templates whenever it is used on the talk page of any IP. I don't see any reason not to have this parameter. CitrusEgg7168 (🍊 ✏️) 20:33, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

I feel like its relevant for me to mention that my IP got blocked, despite it not being me who did it (for clarification it was one of my brothers, 12y/o, and deserved the block). So while it doesnt happen often, it does happen. 👁 Image
