Nominating Im Wired In for GIM

At the November 16, 2024 meeting, it was decided that nominations for global groups should be directed to the Meta Wiki. The group can then be given if there is a consensus in favor, and no wiki representative or current holder of the group vetoes. This thread is therefore closed. --GIM Dianliang233 (talk) 11:43, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

Im Wired In has been helpful in maintaining some of the templates on the wiki for the past year, and has expressed interest in fixing issues with dark mode and mobile dark mode. With IT and NL wikis going live, granting GIM status would allow issues with Module:Documentation across all wikis, since on some wikis the modules are protected. There has been a issue that causes templates to be uncategorized on all wikis, and this issue has only been fixed on the English wiki and 3 other wikis (ES, FR, RU), as it was Im Wired In whom had went in to find a fix for this issue. Giving GIM status to Im Wired In would help with technical maintainance across all wikis. I ๐Ÿ‘ Image
Support nominating Im Wired In for GIM (general global interface maintainer). Delvin4519 (talk) 00:35, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Strong support if Im Wired In is willing to. Im Wired In helped me fix CSS in Special:diff/2710933 and made a lot of interface maintenance edits. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

Oppose at this time. With GIM being a global group, any new appointments need to be made in coordination with all language wikis and not just the English wiki. Additionally, global interface maintainers are the most powerful group we have, requiring an especially high level of trust. -- ๐Ÿ‘ Image

I propose to ask wiki representatives' opinion. If over 2โ„3 or 3โ„4 of them agree then pass. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

The meta wiki states "Currently there is no formal process for obtaining the group. This group can be assigned by Weird Gloop after approval from the community." While wiki reps may weigh in as community members, it doesn't seem that the opinions of wiki reps shall hold extra weight over what the community wants. -BrianGLHF (talk) 02:37, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
The current situation is, as Markus has mentioned, that other language wikis don't really get involved in this discussion, either because they don't know the nomination, aren't interested or even don't know who Im Wired In is. Therefore, imo, asking wiki reps' idea is an efficient way to resolve this. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

At the moment it is stated that there is no formal process other than the community has to vote on it. There is not any other sort of requirement. Lots of people miss out on lots of proposals for various reasons. As far as I can tell, Markus will need to make a proposal to change the process and the community will have to agree on it if the process is to be formalized any further. We donโ€™t get to make up new procedures on the fly in the middle of a proposal. -BrianGLHF (talk) 06:42, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Shouldn't GIM requests be made on the meta wiki? ๐Ÿ‘ Image

Support adding Iโ€™m Wired In to this group. They seem motivated and qualified while showing zero reason to not be trusted in this position. -BrianGLHF (talk) 14:48, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Neutral โ€“ While they have shown significant technical expertise, I do agree with Markus's security concern since they also have not been active on the wiki consistently for a long time. In addition, I would suggest that a separate process for discussions concerning global matters be discussed on Meta. I think that this discussion should be on hold until the board can do this.
