MINECON 2012 was a Minecraft convention held at Disneyland Paris from November 24 to 25, 2012. The event attracted approximately 4,500 attendees, similar to the previous year's convention.[1] The entire convention was live-streamed by GameSpot, who later uploaded some of the content to their YouTube channel.[2]
The official Tumblr page for the event can be found here.
On April 9, 2012, Lydia Winters confirmed that MINECON 2012 would take place in Europe, with more details to be revealed in the coming weeks.[3] On July 18, 2012, she announced that a video revealing the location would be released the following week.[4] On August 2, 2012, Mojang officially announced through a promotional video that MINECON 2012 would be held at Disneyland Paris from November 24–25.[3] The official MINECON website was updated on August 23, 2012, and ticket sales and hotel registration opened on September 14, 2012. Tickets sold out shortly after release.
The event was held at Disneyland Paris (77700 Marne-la-Vallée, France). Activities were centered in the New York Convention Centre, the Times Square Exhibitor's Hall, and the Disney Events Arena.
The Redstone Update was announced by the core Minecraft development team during a keynote presentation at the convention. MINECON 2012 also featured an official costume contest and an official build contest.
The build contest ran a few weeks before the convention, with winners announced during the closing ceremony.

Attendees of MINECON 2012 received an exclusive cape. On October 8, 2012, Junkboy confirmed that the cape design was finalized and that a system to toggle the cape on and off was being implemented.[5] On November 1, Mollstam tweeted that the cape would be available once the cape selection system was completed.[6] This allowed attendees of both MINECON 2011 and 2012 to switch between their capes on minecraft.net.
On November 16, Mollstam confirmed that the MINECON 2012 cape would be distributed at the start of the convention, describing it as "pretty and blue."[7] The cape was revealed to be one of the unused capes from MINECON 2011 that attendees could have voted for.
