Max Brooks is an American author, best known for the novel World War Z. He is the son of comedian Mel Brooks and actress Anne Bancroft. Within the Minecraft franchise, he is known for being the author of a trilogy focusing on the characters Guy and Summer, beginning with Minecraft: The Island.
In 2016, Brooks was announced to helm Minecraft: The Island, the first official novel published by Mojang Studios.[1] In order to prepare for the book, he made a world within Java Edition to tinker with and plan any potential scenarios.[2] The following months revealed the cover, while the book would release on July 18, 2017. [3][4]
In 2021, the book received a sequel in the form of Minecraft: The Mountain. In order to promote it, a map was released continuing its story on the Marketplace, Brooks being interviewed on its continuity on Minecraft.net.[5] A second interview would commence for Minecraft Education, consisting of an hour long livestream.[6]
In 2022, he participated in promoting the League of Literacy, a program featuring a challenge inspired by the Island.[7]
In 2023, the series would conclude with its third installment, Minecraft: The Village. Feeling the story concluded satisfyingly, Brooks would recount on his experiences writing the trilogy in an interview with Brightly.[8]
In 2024, he was featured by Time magazine as a promotion for the 15th anniversary of the franchise.[9] During this segment, a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly was reused.[4]
