An Overworld portal is a structure that acts as a gateway between Overworlds and the portal network. Overworld portals placed inside their dedicated worlds are referred to as exit portals. A special enchanted flint and steel is needed to activate such portals.
This world's Overworld portal appears to be made out of chiseled quartz blocks which surround the inner light-blue center. The portal also has an additional border of gold blocks, giving it a unique shape resembling an egg.
This world's Overworld portal is made out of entirely gold blocks in a shape somewhat resembling a face of a soul.
This world's Overworld portal looks to be made out of only redstone blocks, but in better lighting it has a gold frame surrounding it with a slight slant to it.
This world's Overworld portal is made out of oak logs, with a gold top to it. Some of the oak logs are also facing outwards.
These portals require the use of a special enchanted flint and steel. The details of each portal's dedicated Overworld are written in the atlas, which serves as a guide for using the portals.
If the portal is placed outside its dedicated Overworld, the traveler will be transported to that portal's dedicated Overworld.
If the portal is placed within its dedicated Overworld, the traveler will be transported to the portal network. However, the method of transportation is depicted inconsistently in the series. The traveler either emerges from a paired portal within the network or simply appears in the network's hallway.
Three such portals are known to exist in Minecraft: Story Mode. One portal is located inside the temple of the Old Builders, in the surface below the Sky City, and one in the portal network.
In Order Up!, Jesse, Petra, Lukas, and Ivor discovered a portal on the top floor of the Old Builders' temple. Jesse activated the portal, allowing the Blaze Rods to enter it first, followed by the group. After falling from Sky City, Jesse and Isa accidentally discovered the worldβs dedicated portal while digging for dirt. After resolving the crisis in Sky City, the portal was activated and transported them into the portal network.
In A Portal to Mystery, the group entered a portal from the network off-screen, which brought them to an Overworld with two moons. After leaving the mansion, they found a fake portal which they attempted to activate. However, the ground gave way and led them into a cavern that housed the real portal. After defeating the White Pumpkin, the group activated the real portal.
In Access Denied, the group jumped from portal to portal in search of their home. This frustrated Petra, prompting her to enter a portal made of redstone, believing it might lead to intelligent people who could help them navigate the network. The portal brought them to a world controlled by PAMA, who sought the knowledge of travelling in other worlds kept by Harper. After capturing Harper, PAMA's mobs constructed an Overworld portal at the center of town. After the supercomputer was defeated, Jesse activated the portal and the group returned to the network.
After defeating the Old Builders in A Journey's End?, Jesse used the portal atlas to locate their home's Overworld portal.
