Wither, also referred to as wither sickness, is a disease that causes the affected individual's body to decay. It can be contracted from wither mobs, with the wither storm causing a severe form.
The signs and symptoms of regular wither was never mentioned, but it was stated that it would always wear off eventually.
A severe form of wither can occur, in which the affected area gradually decays and darkens to a purple hue, while the rest of the skin becomes noticeably pale. The decaying area emits a foul odor. Over time, the affected individual develops dark circles around their eyes.
Other known symptoms are fatigue, headaches, coughing, vertigo (dizziness), weakness, and fainting. Having the sickness for a prolonged period will result in a fully decayed body and glowing pink eyes and teeth for the affected individual.
Wither can be contracted from skulls shot by a wither and from physical attacks of a wither skeleton.
Wither can also be contracted from the wither storm, although the exact way of transmission is unknown. Wither contracted from it is in a severe form.
Treatment of wither was unknown, but it wears off after sometime.
The only known cure of advanced wither is by destroying the wither storm. Until then, victims are advised to rest.
Petra or Gabriel contracted the illness after fending off the wither storm at Gabriel's fortress. Later, they spoke to Jesse privately and asked if Jesse knew what "wither" was. When Jesse responded that it was the wither storm chasing them, Petra or Gabriel cut them off, saying that was incorrect. They then rephrased it as "wither sickness" to help Jesse understand. Petra or Gabriel asked Jesse to keep it a secret, and Jesse could either oblige or tell the others. While in Soren's mob grinder, Olivia notices a foul smell which Gabriel or Petra dismisses. The sickness worsened throughout their journey, leading to a conflict between Jesse and Lukas when Lukas noticed Petra or Gabriel's condition. Later, Petra or Gabriel stayed in a cave to rest while the others carried out their plans to defeat the wither storm.
Gabriel mentioned that he has acquired regular wither before in his travels.
Inside the wither storm, Jesse finds some of the citizens that are fully decayed.
After the wither storm is defeated, all individuals afflicted with wither are cured.
