Due to the extreme number of crafting calls on this page, there are issues processing edits, specifically adding the gray banner for the white patterns. I propose to split the patterns into subpages, loaded using {{loadPage}}, similarly to what was done on Crafting KnightMiner t/c 19:19, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

I previously proposed the same on Russian wiki, when GreenStone said about the issue. In reply he did it with a single {{LoadPage}} call instead. — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 19:26, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Maybe a single page will work, though I am concerned with how long it takes to load, the average page on Crafting takes about five seconds for me, while the banner subpage on the russian wiki takes twenty. It may be relevant to note that the crafting subpage "decoration blocks" sometimes times out when I load it, causing me to want to avoid that route. KnightMiner t/c 19:46, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for edit conflicts caused by me. I’ve already split that subpage into multiple. — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 19:49, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Huuuhhhh... I’ve barely archived this talk page, since it also takes much time to load up. — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 19:57, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
That is a lot faster, it should work. It would even make sense to fully merge the gradients into backgrounds, removing the second title.
We still do have one issue, the shapeless recipes are loaded using {{crafting usage}}, which does not load from subpages. The best solution I can think of right now would be manually adding the recipes on the relevant articles, since the dye pages are already set to ignore those recipes. KnightMiner t/c 20:11, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
I think that for these situations, we should implement some sort of “groups” with a set lead article and set sub-pages with recipes. The lead article will be in the categories. When we import an article that leads the group, the system looks up recipes in each page in the group, and returns the whole thing back. — NickTheRed37 t/c (f.k.a. Naista2002) 20:24, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Looking over the code, that would be easy enough to implement, or the recipe categories can simply be added to the subpage, as it seems {{crafting usage}} simply checks the category, and {{crafting}} suppresses the category on subpages. KnightMiner t/c 20:32, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
The poor performance is due to the amount of images. Using load page will make this page faster to save, but make the recipes many times slower to view, as you can see with our crafting page. MajrTalk

Banner images in the crafting descriptions

[edit source]
Latest comment: 24 May 20152 comments2 people in discussion

Do we really need the additional "preview" of the banner image at the end anymore? They seem somewhat redundant now that we have the banner inventory icons, and removing them would help reduce images on this page until we have a better solution. KnightMiner t/c 03:20, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Probably not. I’m a little concerned by the sheer number of grid images used, but it looks like they use less bandwidth overall than the preview images. Might not hurt to make sure they’re as compressed as possible anyway. — Orthotopetalk 05:58, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Mojang Charge

[edit source]
Latest comment: 14 March 20166 comments2 people in discussion

In-game name of the Mojang logo charge says “Thing” (with Thing supposedly being a meaning of Mojang’s name). Yes the name misses the word “Charge” itself, and should be “Thing Charge”; report it to developers. I think replacing it with “Mojang Charge” is misleading, so I propose to change it back to “Thing” (and add explanation for it). — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 17:19, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

This is an active wiki; why nobody replies? — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 16:35, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Well as for me, it was a busy Friday ... But yeah, I support using the in-game name, and adding an explanation. Glancing through page history, seems it was never really in there 'correctly'. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 16:51, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
I went ahead and did it, I think it was a good idea. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 05:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
The in-game name actually doesn’t have the word “Charge”. We probably should use just “Thing”, not “Thing Charge”. — Agent NickTheRed37 (talk) 15:11, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Clarify (or remove) sentence concerning banner retrieval (and renaming)

[edit source]
Latest comment: 30 May 20182 comments1 person in discussion

Hi, I read "A banner can be given a custom name which remains as the banner is placed and retrieved. The player can use an anvil to rename..." (emphasis mine) and using the Windows 10 edition was unable to verify this naming behavior. Additionally, the article does not say how a banner can be "retrieved". Right click left click do nothing special. 3ICE (talk) 14:11, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Followup request: Mention the possible interactions between maps and banners. (How banners can mark a spot on the map, including their name/label, and if anything special happens when right clicking one on the other, etc.) I do not yet know enough about either to safely do this myself. 3ICE (talk) 14:14, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Fate of the "Example Designs" gallery subsection

[edit source]
Latest comment: 14 July 20182 comments2 people in discussion

Issues I see:

  1. Contains no information on how these banners are made. Purely a demonstration of the file uploaders' designs. That information would be tutorial content and therefore unsuitable for regular articles.
  2. No clear addition/removal criteria. Can grow endlessly and incite removal/addition edit wars.

Proposal: Remove the section from the article, and optionally refactor it into a tutorial. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 18:54, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

It does give a good image of what you could create with it, so I don't mind it being there (nor would I really mind removal). FVbico (talk) 18:25, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Animated banner image

[edit source]
Latest comment: 1 May 20191 comment1 person in discussion

I have created an animated banner (the slate gently swings in the wind) in Blender:

👁 Image

I'm pretty sure the angles match Vanilla Minecraft (lowest 0,45°; highest 4,05°; swing angle 3,6°).

If you think this is good, I will give out the Blender project so you can render it in different colors.

I'm too lazy to render every type of banner, so I guess I will leave it for you.

Click here to download the project package.

Instructions

[edit source]
  • Unzip the package into a folder.
  • Recolor Banner slate top/left/right.png to the color you want.
  • Open Banner.blend with Blender.
  • To remove the stand, in Outliner editor, toggle off visibility of Stand left and Stand right, which are children of Banner mesh. (The light blue bordered part)
  • Switch to Properties editor. Display Render section (the camera icon).
  • Change where you want to save the rendered images in the yellow part.
  • Click the Animation button (the red part).
  • Wait for it to finish (should take less than 15").
  • Create the GIF with the image sequence you have just rendered. Each image is a frame. The frame rate is 20FPS (0,05" or 50 milliseconds per frame).

Done. Upload and use it.

Ominous Banner Attracting Pillagers

Hello, first time editing so sorry if there's any mistakes in formatting or etiquette etc. The Ominous Banner section says "Will attract Illager patrols."

Banner#Helmet - Animation makes page jittery

[edit source]
Latest comment: 20 May 20222 comments2 people in discussion

In the Banner#Helmet section, the animation showing the banner on a Pillager Captain, then Alex and Steve changes width. As a result it causes the paragraph text to reflow differently around each. This causes everything below it, to jitter around and bounce up and down a line every few seconds. Very irritating to anyone trying to read the article.

Can we change the animation or its container to a fixed width so it stops reflowing the text over and over?

Banner Pattern codes → names info not mentioned

[edit source]
Latest comment: 9 November 20241 comment1 person in discussion

Somewhere around the time that custom banner patterns feature was added (24w10a) the command structure for obtaining banners with specific patterns changed from using codes 3 letters long, or shorter, to using full namespaced names "minecraft.pattern_name". This change in how banner patterns on banners are obtained through commands (+possibly how they are stored in nbt format?) should imo be accounted for somewhere in either trivia or in history sections; both for preservation's sake and because people (more specifically map makers and data pack creators, or just any command user) using versions prior to ~24w10a, definitely anyone using 1.19 or lower, will inadvertently run into problems when trying to obtain/work with banners with patterns 155.158.59.71 06:36, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Split banner patterns into their own page

[edit source]
Latest comment: 25 January7 comments5 people in discussion

Named banner making. The loom recipes and crafting recipes would be moved there. It would focus more heavily on the patterns and the crafting process. -- Simanelix (T|C) 14:09, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

ngl all this banner making stuff in multiple pages is confusing as heck, i'd definitely love to just have a page explaining the process of making decent banner patterns 136.63.14.33 13:13, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
That would be annoying for readers as banner making is unique to banners. The crafting recipes are just a legacy thing that was left in Bedrock for old patterns only, and there's really nothing to say about patterns and the crafting process other than what we already have here. The banner pattern items have separate pages because they are proper inventory items and have different obtaining methods, but separate pages for other patterns (e.g. a page for paly or a page for per bend sinister inverted) would make no sense as they aren't items.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 13:33, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
I say that it's banner-related, but it would be long, so we should make another page and put a link on the banners page. 113.74.94.230 03:34, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
I know this discussion is from quite a few months ago, but as it's still linked in the page as a message box, I 👁 Image
Support this split. I think it could be something like Enchanting mechanics or Anvil mechanics.
‑‑MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 12:44, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
For most patterns the recipe is just banner + dye in the loom, or banner + dye + specific pattern item for a handful of them. Unlike enchanting or anvil, the mechanics are not deep whatsoever and I don't think there would be any benefits for readers in moving the pattern recipes to a separate page.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 15:19, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
Fair enough, I guess. I mean, there might be some interesting mechanics, like that you can't apply more than a certain amount of patterns (seven, I think), but yeah, I now think that there might not be sufficient information for such split. ‑‑MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 22:54, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

The page does have the crafting recipe for banners. I've changed the subsection order under "Obtaining" to something that makes a bit more sense.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 16:42, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

The tool provided to view banner sets (while impressive for a wiki) breaks easier than Cyberpunk 2077 at launch on last gen consoles, to the point where it greatly diminishes its usefulness to the point of it being little more than a waste of bandwidth
