Blocks:why?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 10 January 20114 comments3 people in discussion

seriously, I don't get it. why use blocks? why not chests? you can fit 1728 blocks of iron in one chest alone, yet people just build them outside of chests? I can see how they're useful as an entity, but not being used. then it;s worse O.o

can anyone shed some light on this for me?--Kizzycocoa 22:01, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Used to show bling, like Gold? Well, i do anyway.Toadbert
Yep, bling factor. Inacio
but, people STORE them PHYSICALLY. like, proper stores. rooms filled with iron blocks for storage. it's insane to me O.o--Kizzycocoa 22:11, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
probably for decorative store rooms.Toadbert
well turning iron into blocks will effectively fit 15,552 iron ([stack]64 x 27[chest] x 9 [iron per block]) then times that by two for a double chest size of storage (31,104). if that isn't impressive, it's definitely compacting and effective. Soul4hdwn 01:55, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Like Toadbert said, people usually do it to show wealth or to be decorative. If I had enough stored up I'd use the blocks because they're nice to look at (a texture pack I use makes them have patterns). A player could also use them because it reminds them of how much of a store they have. Frozenne 15:22, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Block of Iron

The names in Beta for the Iron, Gold and Diamond blocks are called "Block of X", X being the material. I would suggest an article move from "Iron Block" to "Block of Iron", "Gold Block" to "Block of Gold" and "Diamond Block" to "Block of Diamond" --Bippo Ernesti 03:03, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I agree with this suggestion. —KPReid 16:33, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Disagree. the brackets let you know there is a disambiguation. That is the format of the wiki. --HexZyle 04:46, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Sorry if this is so out of place but in the code it's variable is blockSteel no bracket would be my suggestion

The naming format used on this wiki makes it easy to show that there are disambiguations. Therefore, we will keep the brackets.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 10:03, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

But it looks stupid. ---007a83 18:30, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

I think your surgestions are totaly logic :) change it!

Properties?

Ok, I know iron has a few properties. A new theory that appears to be pretty legit is that iron actually attracts lightning is coming up, and one guy even made a few pictutes of a working, vanilla lightning rod. TheroeticallyScrewed 03:59, 22 August 2011 (UTC) TheoreticallyScrewed

Pictures? They could EASILY have been faked and/or a coincidence. We need a video of him using the "Force Update" button to know it's vanilla, and then see lightning hitting the block. Cool12309(T|C) 06:52, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Good point. Though I don't have beta, so I can't test it myself. D: I forget to sign, so... TheroeticallyScrewed 19:07, 22 August 2011 (UTC)TheoreticallyScrewed

Why block of Iron, Gold, Diamond and Lapis Lazuli? In game, they're Iron Block, Gold Block, etc. Why we still use an old name? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 189.34.184.230 (Talk) 14:07, 18 March 2012‎. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Nope. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:16, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Is this texture actually used in Pocket Edition Pre-release? I think we need a specific evidence to verify.--Lxazl5770zh.admin04:56, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

I got a new image we could use

Using the image for iron from this page: Java Edition Classic 0.28, I managed to cut out the item icon in the hotbar. What do you think?

👁 Image

It is a texture pack... Humiebeetalk contribs 13:58, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

It said on the bottom of page to include the image with a link to the webpage, it might be an error.

Never mind, it meant for the images on the bottom.

Is the history correct?

In the Bedrock Edition section of the history, it shows that the first texture was File:Block of Iron JE1.png, but on the page for the version, it shows File:Block of Iron JE2 BE1.png. Which is correct? - 👁 Image

Also the textures were changed to the 2nd version a year before the Pocket Edition Demo was made. Does the history need to be changed? - 👁 Image
