Minecraft Legends provides some lore as to how illagers came to be (they wanted to help defend the Overworld against the piglins so they visited the Hosts, they turned them grey and gave them an axe. I can provide a recording of the cutscene if necessary), should this be included in the Trivia section?
They are recorded on the Warrior page. A later cutscene also shows some tension between some villagers and a Warrior, apparently the start of the agression between the two.

Someone needs to check and clarify whether pillagers, illager patrols, and raids can spawn on peaceful because the illagers we have now spawn on all game modes. – Unsigned comment added by 96.32.201.68 (talk) at 22:50, 23 November 2018 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~
No, illagers are not villager variants; they are their own set of mobs technically. and they are hostile, so no. Noeuahi (talk) 16:46, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

I feel like there should be a separate page for patrol leaders or captains, mostly because someone has to look through multiple pages to even understand the concept of illager leaders and captains, such as Raid, Illager patrol, and Pillager outpost. It’s also such a modest, interesting concept from 1.14 it should be easier to understand in one page, and some pages even like Chicken jockey exist so why not for this concept? If so, it might want to include that once an Illager Banner is dropped (what if one's Added-in..? an extra 1 [for multiple]??), apparently-All the Illagers - Of - Pillagers-and-Vindicators (which're the specifically Patrol, Illagers, also By The Way) go for them. To "Become," the - "New" - Illager "Leader(s) /Captain(s)."
It might have to include that trick, of: "once they have the Illager Banner, they're the given 'Leader /Captain'." It's also "Capture the Flag," heh and /or "tag /pick-up, 'you're "it"'" ; whether Each (re-?)killing of them (re-??)"Triggers" an - "additional"? - Raid, or not: not just that they don't-necessarily Spawn that way.
This is a long Quote, but comparing to the Chicken Jockey, Page this came from:
"
Each baby zombie, baby husk, baby zombie villager or baby zombie pigman that spawns has a 5% chance to check for an existing chicken within a 10×6×10 box centered on the baby's spawn location, and it will spawn riding one of those chickens if there are any. If it fails that 5% chance to check for existing chickens, there is an additional 5% chance of the baby zombie spawning mounted on a new chicken. In a chicken-free environment, this gives each spawned zombie a 0.25% chance of becoming a chicken jockey; if chickens are present, the chance increases to 0.4875%.
"
So like a Chicken, Banners are sometimes Spawned-with, and Sometimes, "Acquired." A.k.a. "born or made." Yilante 2 /5 /19 7:35 p.m. 76.209.248.19203:35, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Sure, they still spawn in dark conditions and look different, but they join raids and are generally mean to villagers. Should they be added to the list? --67.189.221.9005:19, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Interesting related note: since they're Counted (I think) as Raiders, are they "Raiders-of-opportunity"? To me, the fact that Lightning, Striking them "turns" them (Villagers) into Witches, "flipping them" (from Passive to basically still-more "Hostile" than "Neutral," despite possible 1.14 Changes in-designation, at least), and /or they - could? (don't know if I've yet seen it, myself) - attack Villagers, they might be the ones who most-put the "Ill.." in "Illager(s)"..? Yilante 5 /28 /19 11:10 p.m. 76.209.248.19206:10, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
And then there's another thought. Witches self-Heal using displayed-as held potions (after a little while).
In this way they can survive even in Lava (unlike all-but Nether Mobs, basically; another trick is getting them to attack one another, so that eventually they'll be constantly healing themselves /attacking all not-them around them: this works best in groups of them). Maybe that most-recent "Evoker fangs (attack)" isn't quite-as important in classifying them (since they don't get hurt as-much, and self-Heal in-between, anyway)? So, how exactly is a ravager a true illager in bedrock but not java? Which of the 2 requirements (or both) do not match in java? If you react, please also add it to the parity issue list. FVbico (talk) 09:54, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
They are attacked by Johnny and damaged by Evoker fangs. Tested in the latest stable and snapshot. Adding it to that list. Niutp (talk) 21:50, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

In java edition ghasts are illagers??
"Johnny" vindicators do not attack the mob. - Ghasts does not get attacked by Johnny.
The mob cannot be damaged by evoker fangs. - That will be effectively impossible because ghasts always seek up and pass through blocks if other mobs are nearby. So Nope.
The mob does not fight back when hit by a missed arrow shot by a pillager or illusioner. - Only targets players.
This page speaks about the Illusioner being involved in raids in one section, but then says it is unused in another later section. Not defined correctly in the "unused" statement whether this is Java/Bedrock etc.
Illusioners do not spawn in raids
The can join raids (but don't spawn naturally)
They were mentioned to possibly (in the future) be included
Illagers are classified as not being attacked by johnny vindicators, being immune to evoker fangs and not retaliating to being hit by an arrow fired from a pillager or illusioner. James Haydon (talk) 03:46, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
The only thing I got was Johnny didn't attack and since illusioners don't exist in BE, the ravager didn't retaliate to a pillager. Not sure about evocation fangs tho. I'm pretty sure in Java Ravagers aren't illagers. I also saw some people saying in BE Ravagers are illagers but not JE. SlingingDart612 (talk) 19:22, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
It is a known bug: MC-109384 – Some entities don't disappear or still hurt players in peaceful mode – resolved as "Won't Fix". The evoker page mentions that peaceful difficulty doesn't affect evoker fangs. Rampage455 (talk) 00:29, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
I edited that illagers except ravagers, are afraid of creakings, is there something wrong with that cause someone called amethyst something reverted it.
Their first 2 edits were good faith, but not their 3rd one as the last edit summary could be seen as a personal attack against the reverter. Take a look at the edit summary of their last edit again ~2026-NetheriteGuardianArmadillo7492 (talk) 12:58, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
Ok, but their last edit summary was "Witch not illager, you обманщики!", which is not seen as good faith in my opinion. It would be seen as good faith had the you обманщики part not been included. Other than that one particular phrase you prove an excellent point. ~2026-NetheriteGuardianArmadillo7492 (talk) 13:02, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
