Polar bear child render

[edit source]
Latest comment: 23 May 20161 comment1 person in discussion

TODO: It ought to be a separate image having the cub's features, for example a larger head, not just be a rescaled image of the adult. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 14:40, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Redirect from "Bear"

[edit source]
Latest comment: 29 September 20203 comments3 people in discussion

I think Bear should redirect here, since there are no other bears in MC, at least nor yet. Xeoxer (talk) 10:45, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Pandas are bears. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

@TBFTE123: Notice when that comment was written. Pandas didn't exist in Minecraft back then. At the time, it was a perfectly valid suggestion. ~ Amatulic (talk) 16:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

"Cub" should redirect to this page

Could you please make it so? VeenM64 (talk) 21:13, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Remove aggressive mob category

[edit source]
Latest comment: 29 September 20204 comments4 people in discussion

For some reason, this page is under all of the following categories: aggressive mobs, neutral mobs, and passive mobs. Can I remove the aggressive mob category, as no other neutral mob articles have this? I know that cubs are passive mobs, but we may should remove passive mobs as well. However, polar bears are definitely not hostile mobs, as even if they are hostile sometimes, "sometimes" would be classified as neutral mobs.--Madminecrafter12 (talk) 15:00, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

In contrast with other neutral mobs that attack only when attacked, the polar bear sometimes becomes aggressive without such an attack, if it is an adult protecting a cub. Is why I think this page is also listed as aggressive mob. Because the page is about both the neutral/aggressive adult and passive cub, I wouldn't remove the passive category. As such, this page is correctly listed as all aggressive, neutral and passive. – Jack McKalling [ 👁 User page

After experiencing an unprovoked attack from a polar bear simply by virtue of a cub wandering too close to me all on its own, I agree that "hostile mob" is an appropriate category. It would be nice to know how to soothe a polar bear once it becomes hostile. Maybe feed it a salmon? ~ Amatulic (talk) 05:44, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Or you could just run away, they’re not that fast. Not saying they’re slow, but you could outrun them. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:25, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Are polar bears neutral or hostile

On December 2020 an IP changed "neutral" to "hostile" without discussion. Are polar bears neutral or hostile? The Great Spring (talk | contribs) (Tagalog translation) 02:52, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Swimming speed faster than the player's?!

[edit source]
Latest comment: 21 August 20213 comments3 people in discussion

"Their swimming speed is equal to the player's, making them difficult to get away from if they are attacking in water."

OK I hit a polar bear while in water, attempted to flee from it by sprint-swimming, and got attacked by it several seconds later after provoked, meaning they're faster than the player's swimming speed ARE THEY 76.65.23.224 16:30, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

You can try some more tests. It is possible that if your weaved left or right while swimming, even a little bit, the bear could catch you by swimming straight, even if the bear has the same swim speed. Amatulic (talk) 17:40, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
So the reason the polar bear's swimming speed is approximately equal to the player's swimming speed is because the polar bear's swimming speed is either not reduced by water, or is faster than its walking speed. Either one of them fits best in the article 99.225.26.102 14:37, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Do cubs grow up to be adults?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 5 January 20222 comments2 people in discussion

Currently, the only mention of cubs' growth is sentence "cubs' growth cannot be sped up". But do the cubs actually grow up to be adult bears? —andrybak (talk) 19:05, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Yes, but their growth rate cannot be changed, unlike other baby animals. Amatulic (talk) 15:27, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Polar bears drop cooked fishes when kill while on fire

Confirmed that Polar bears drop Cooked Cod and Cooked Salmon when killed while on fire or killed with a Fire Aspect sword. Tested on Java 1.18.2. 185.165.34.139 04:33, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. I have removed the {{verify}} tag. Amatulic (talk) 14:38, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Do they spawn in the Frozen Peaks (BE) biome?

[edit source]

This page says they do. The biome page says only the mountain goats spawn there.

I have seen a Polar Bear in a Frozen Peaks biome, but did not see where exactly it spawned, so cannot confirm anything.

It is required though, as it helps people know immediately who posted the comment and at what time. Unresolved

I’ve seen some articles featuring mobs with baby variants not being below the adult variant including this, where the baby variant is in a separate tab, this should be changed to reflect consistency.
