Move to "Sweet Berries"?

Latest comment: 5 December 20181 comment1 person in discussion

In game these are called "Sweet Berries". With a plural. Doesn't have a singular. Should it be moved there instead? -Oozebull (talk) 17:01, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

I think this should be added to the page. Although I don't know what the exact mechanics are, I just added a generic note to the page. Someone should probably add some details on how it is implemented in the code. Estetique (talk) 07:32, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Farmland

The article says that sweet berry bushes can be placed on farmland, which is false, at least on bedrock.73.208.227.101 16:21, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

"Natural generation" clarification request

Can someone clarify if the snowy variants have a higher or lower chance to spawn sweet berries than their non-snowy Taiga variants? Kenji 03 (talk) 16:51, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Light and space requirements for growth incorrect for Java Edition

[edit source]
Latest comment: 22 December 20202 comments2 people in discussion

I've done some testing on Java Edition, and Sweet Berries will grow if the light level in the block above them is 9 or more and is transparent. I have been unable to get a single berry bush to grow naturally at any light level less than 9, or with an opaque block directly above them, and I planted a lot of them. Bonemeal grows them regardless of what block or light level is above them. This contradicts the article, which states that no light is required, and that an "open air block" is required above them (which doesn't seem to allow for things like slabs or jack-o-lanterns, which allow growth just fine). However, I have no idea what the situation is on Bedrock Edition. 75.68.186.111 19:54, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

I suspect this is true - I'm not seeing them grow without light. Bonemeal works as described, and a slab over them (because it does not block light) also works. However to advance growth stages, they do require light of 9. I believe they will, however, produce berries in the dark once fully mature. --CasualZombie (talk) 15:00, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Effect on Player

[edit source]

When walking through any sweet berry bush, the player moves at a slower speed, similar to cobwebs. When the bush is at or beyond growth stage 2, standing in it does damage to the player.

Need biome list

[edit source]
Latest comment: 14 September 20233 comments2 people in discussion

The section about sweet berry bushes says "They can be found naturally in various taiga biomes." The problem is that neither here nor on that page is there any kind of list of taiga biomes.

Can someone look up exactly which biomes can have sweet berries growing in them, and put up a list?

Thanks! SirDaddicus (talk) 19:12, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

See Taiga#Woodland biomes. There are four taiga biomes: Taiga, two Old Growth Taiga biomes (pine and spruce), and Snowy Taiga. Amatulic (talk) 14:33, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
And the article body already says sweet berries grow in Taiga and Snowy Taiga biomes. I changed the lead sentence to say the same thing. Amatulic (talk) 18:57, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Growth stage terminology

[edit source]
Latest comment: 24 January 20242 comments2 people in discussion

The official changelog for Preview 1.20.70.20 refers to sweet berry bushes in their first growth stage as "sweet berry bush saplings". Should the article include some mention of this? ✿ShadowMistress✿ t+c 19:21, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

I personally think it can be a bit confusing since sapling are a completely different thing in the game. I would avoid using it unless it shows up in-game.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 20:32, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Growth Rate

Does anyone know what the probability of a sweet berry bush progressing one growth stage on each random tick is? Estetique (talk) 07:44, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
