Remove accidental terrain features

[edit source]
Latest comment: 26 August 20192 comments2 people in discussion

There's a lot of "features" on here that are really just accidental results of terrain generation, such as hollows or basins. Should we remove these? -PancakeIdentity (talk) 01:24, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

The page is titled "terrain features" so accidental features would fit the scope. If it were titled "Generated features" then they wouldn't.  Nixinova T  C  05:10, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

The "first" image of giant tree taiga with the boulder is not the first after all, since it uses the textures from Village & Pillage.--Delibirda (talk) 17:22, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Sweet Berry Bushes

Aren't these a terrain feature? Why did they get removed when I added them?73.208.227.101 22:02, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

We decided to exclude plants on this page when it was first created. In addition, no other 1-block plants are documented here. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 03:18, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
These would come under Vegetation patch. - User-12316399 (talk) 09:09, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Should the Basalt "hills" in Basalt Deltas be considered a separate terrain feature?

[edit source]

The jagged "hills" in basalt deltas have a unique shape that is not part of regular Nether terrain. Should they be considered separate terrain features?

WTH is the "deep pit holes" in the Nether?!?!?!

I am not sure what are these terrain features in the Nether but it is definitely not hidden lava because its volume can be up to several hundred blocks and is most commonly found underground, sometimes exposed to the air, and making blast-mining in the Nether underground more difficult because lava spawns at level 31 and lower 76.65.23.224 17:08, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Bryce Pillar

Is "Bryce pillar" an internal name? The Around the Block segment on the Badlands refers to the feature as "hoodoo". If not, then is there any source for this name? If there's no source for the name, then it should probably be replaced, though if there is, I'd suggest adding "also known as hoodoo". Pescavelho (talk) 22:52, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

1.18 Terrain Features

[edit source]

Please add the new terrain features from 1.18. There are new terrain features in 1.18 (besides the new jagged mountains and caves) that did not exist in 1.17 and below such as the new cliffsides & larger hills that generate in some seeds or another.

Please add any terrain features that did not exist from 1.17- and are in 1.18+.

Split "Erosions" into its own page

Looking around the wiki it appears that small and distinct terrain features earn their own articles, for example: Disk, Basalt Pillar, and Underwater magma. Small as they are, none are marked as stubs and are about as noticable as erosions are. Why do these have a page? Erosions are intentional generated land features, even if they aren't very impressive, and more is already written about them here than some of the articles I linked. If not, then many articles stand to be merged back into Terrain Features. Plus, this page is already serving as a hub so it can be cross-linked here.

I know erosions are rarely generating in current versions but—this is a bug—which shouldn't hamper the creation of a page.

What do you think? Glojam (talk) 13:35, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Support splitting it, but I assume there must be some reason why terrain features are all just on one page, and I'd like to know that reason. - Harristic / Talk 👁 Image

This is a good question, but I don't think there is a strong reason other than a lack of interest. I'm not sure how long ago that features were split into their respective pages, but you can tell that that page is neater and more compartmentalized than this one. Plus, it enabled those pages to have more detailed information written about them. I'm getting a bit off track of the original discussion (erosions) but other sections that probably deserve their own page are Strips, Floating Islands (for the same reason Monolith was written), and possibly Lava Sea. But everything else is really just bloat. Cliff and Fjord for example are just byproducts of the terrain generator and could just be mentioned on World Generation, unless someone comes up with a good reason why they should be their own pages. Update - here is the progress on the candidate page: User:Glojam/Erosion. Right now it needs an expanded history section. One issue is that there isn't a fitting infobox for terrain features, so I had to use the flexible infobox. Feel free to edit. Glojam (talk) 10:19, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
