The Vanilla capeβ[JE only] or One Vanilla Capeβ[BE only] is a cape given to players who owned both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition for Windows before June 6, 2022 prior to both editions merging into one bundle.
The cape resembles a grass block on top and bedrock on the bottom, representing both editions of the game.
Players were able to obtain the cape under the condition that both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition for Windows are owned in the same Microsoft account before June 6, 2022.
| June 7, 2022 | Mojang Studios announced that Java Edition and Bedrock Edition for Windows is merging into a single purchase. Though it was generally received well, a majority of players asked if they will be compensated for buying both editions.[citation needed] |
|---|
| August 12, 2022 | The cape's existence was leaked on Minecraft.net, revealing "a special Vanilla cape for Java and Bedrock players." An announcement was made on the official Minecraft Discord server, which confirmed the cape.[1] |
|---|
| August 15, 2022 | The cape was officially announced on Minecraft.net. |
|---|
| August 31, 2022 | Players who owned both editions of the game before June 6, 2022 on the same Microsoft account were automatically given the cape. |
|---|
- The Vanilla Cape is the first cape to be fully available on both editions (aside from the staff-only Mojang Studios Cape).
- The Pan Cape and the Founder's Cape existed before the Vanilla Cape and were later given to Java Edition. At the time, however, they were only on Bedrock Edition.
- Back in 2015, Java Edition players were able to obtain a free code for the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta on the now-defunct Mojang website. Players who obtained Bedrock Edition via this method were eligible for the cape.
