Share and update your location automatically

When you share your location in a Messages conversation, it updates in real time right in the conversation.

  1. Go to the Messages app 👁 Image
    on your iPhone.

  2. In a conversation, tap 👁 the Add button
    .

  3. Tap Location, then tap Share.

  4. Decide how long you want to share your location.

Tap Indefinitely if you want to share your location until you manually stop sharing it.

  5. Tap 👁 the Send button
to send your location. (Or tap 👁 the Remove App from Message button
    if you change your mind.)

Tip: When somebody asks where you are, quickly share your location by tapping Current Location (above the keyboard).

If you share your location to a group and then add other people to the group, you can reshare your location to let everyone see where you are.

When you want to share your location in an SMS conversation, send a pinned location instead.

To use Messages to check in with someone—for example, to notify a family member or friend that you’ve made it to your destination safely, see Send a Check In.

Messages uses the Find My app when you share your location. Learn how to share your location and locate someone.
