Customize Siri on Mac

When you turn on Siri, you can customize your Siri settings—for example, add it to the menu bar, choose how to activate it and how it sounds, and more.

Add Siri to the menu bar

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image
    on your Mac.

  2. Click Menu Bar 👁 Image
    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Below Menu Bar Controls, select Siri.

Activate “Hey Siri” or “Siri” on Mac

If available for your device and language, you can choose to activate Siri by using “Hey Siri” or “Siri.”

Note: “Hey Siri” or “Siri” may not be available for your device, language, or region. To check whether “Hey Siri” or “Siri” is available, see the macOS Feature Availability website.

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image

  2. Click Apple Intelligence & Siri 👁 Image
    (or Siri 👁 Image
    )
    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Turn on the “Listen for” option by choosing the phrase you want to speak to start using Siri.

    When this option is on and you turn on “Allow Siri when locked,” you can also use Siri even if your Mac is locked or in sleep.

  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up “Hey Siri” or “Siri.”

Change the keyboard shortcut to activate Siri

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image
    on your Mac.

  2. Click Apple Intelligence & Siri 👁 Image
    (or Siri 👁 Image
    )
    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Click the pop-up menu next to “Keyboard shortcut,” then choose a shortcut to activate Siri or create your own.

Choose the language and voice Siri uses

You can further customize Siri by choosing the language and voice Siri uses.

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image
    on your Mac.

  2. Click Apple Intelligence & Siri 👁 Image

    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Click the pop-up menu next to Language, then choose a language.

  4. Click the Select button next to Voice, then make the following choices in the pop-up menu that appears:

    • Variations

    • Voices

Customize Siri responses

You can customize Siri responses by choosing to mute Siri, show what Siri says onscreen, and show what you say onscreen.

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image
    on your Mac.

  2. Click Apple Intelligence & Siri 👁 Image

    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Click the pop-up menu next to “Siri responses,” then choose one of the following:

    • Prefer Spoken Responses

    • Automatic

    • Prefer Silent Responses

Turn Siri Suggestions on or off

When you turn on Siri Suggestions, you get suggested actions in some apps even before you ask.

  1. Go to the System Settings app 👁 Image

  2. Click Apple Intelligence & Siri 👁 Image

    )
    in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. Click Siri Suggestions & Privacy.

  4. In the list on the left, select an app, then turn on or off “Show Siri Suggestions for [application]” or “Learn from this application.”

To turn off Location Services for Siri Suggestions, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Privacy & Security 👁 Image
in the sidebar, then click Location Services. Next to System Services, click Details, then turn off Suggestions & Search.
