The Boots, sometimes referred to as Jump, are Mario's normal footwear in the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series, and are usually present alongside the Hammer as a standard form of attack. Eventually, better versions of the boots can be found either in shops or the field. Usually, jump attacks are ineffective against spiked enemies.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario[edit]

In Paper Mario, Mario starts the game with his standard boots equipped. When using a Jump attack, the boots deal one damage to a defenseless enemy, although having different Badges equipped can increase the damage dealt. Later on, the Super Boots and Ultra Boots can be found in Boo's Mansion and Toad Town Tunnels, respectively. These serve as direct upgrades, and enhance Mario's abilities.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario's Boots behave similarly to the previous game. The Super Boots and Ultra Boots return, and can be found in The Great Tree and Riverside Station respectively.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Boots are used as a form of attack via application of Jump stickers. The standard Jump sticker is most prominent in Decalburg and World 1. Having a one-star attack power, it is second-weakest in the Jump sticker family, outclassing only the Worn-Out Jump. Stronger variants include the Shiny Jump, Flashy Jump, Big Shiny Jump, and Megaflash Jump. It can be set in the Sticker Museum as No. 02.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, the Boots return with their functionality from Paper Mario: Sticker Star, as Jump Battle Cards. They can be found primarily throughout Port Prisma, or purchased from shops for 5 coins. Alternatively, pre-painted cards sell for 20 coins. Jump Cards have stronger forms, including Jump x2, Jump x3, Big Jump, Big Jump x2, and Huge Jump.

Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Mario's Boots are once again a permanent attack option; he can also find or buy Shiny, Flashy, Legendary, or Gold versions of his Boots (the last of which grants Mario extra coins) and Iron versions of his normal Boots as well as the first three variations (which let him stomp spiked enemies), which are stronger, but break after a certain number of uses. Additionally, the damage dealt by the standard boots increases as Mario collects more MAX UP Hearts.

Mario & Luigi series[edit]

In the Mario & Luigi series, boots are one of the types of gear the Bros. can equip. Boots as a category of gear are introduced in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, recurring in the remake Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Boots often increase the power of jump attacks. While these games have jumping attacks, they are not tied to selecting the boots in battle.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]

Boots are introduced as a type of gear in this game.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team revamps the gear system. In this game, Mario and Luigi always have a set of boots equipped in a dedicated slot. At the start of the game, these are the Run-Down Boots. Boots increase the character's Power when using the standard Jump attack, as well as any Bros. Attacks and Luiginary Attacks that deal damage using the boots. Special attacks that are jumps are included, but boots are used in the 3D Green Shell and 3D Red Shell attacks. (Luiginary Ball uses the boots, but that is also a Jump.)

The player can find, receive, or purchase other boots to use, such as the Knockout Boots and the Bare Boots. These have increased Power, and can confer additional benefits to attacks that use the boots. Later in the game, the player can obtain DX variations on older Boots with increased stats.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, one Accessory is the Jumping Boots. It allows the wearer to jump normally when enemies are attacking, even while under the Light G status, the Heavy G status, or when carrying the other character while they are defeated.
