Choppahs[1] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switch port. They appear as green beetle-like creatures that lack legs. Each Choppah has an orange spiked helmet and has a propeller around its neck, giving the enemy the ability to fly. Choppahs fly in a vertical straight line in most galaxies. Most of the time, Choppahs mostly appear in 2D sections; the 3D sections they do appear in tend to have narrow pathways that force the player to engage them. They can be defeated only by being eaten by Yoshi and release three Star Bits upon being eaten. When shot by a Star Bit from the Star Pointer, Choppahs get stunned in place for a short moment.

Choppahs appear in the following list of galaxies and missions. If no mission is stated, Choppahs appear during all missions:

Choppahs are similar to the Bee enemies from Donkey Kong Jungle Beat in design, proportions, and behavior; both Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Super Mario Galaxy 2 were developed by the same team.[2][3]

Naming[edit]

"Choppah" is a phonetic respelling of "chopper" (an alternate term for "helicopter"), matching its pronounciation in non-rhotic English dialects.

Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
