The DIVINE Attribute icon

DIVINE (かみ Kami "God") is an Attribute in Yu-Gi-Oh!.

In the OCG/TCG, the DIVINE Attribute is exclusive to the Egyptian Gods, making it by far the least common Attribute. While illegal versions of the Egyptian Gods were printed early in the game's history, this Attribute was not officially part of the game until the release of the legal version of "Obelisk the Tormentor" in the OCG in 2008 and in the TCG in 2009.

DIVINE monsters also have two exclusive Types. All but one DIVINE monster has the Divine-Beast Type; the OCG-only "Holactie the Creator of Light" has the unique Creator God Type.

The DIVINE Attribute's exclusivity gives it some niche use cases. For example, it is relatively hard for the opponent to use it with "Super Polymerization", and it is the only Attribute unaffected by "Clear World".

In the anime and manga, some monsters other than the Egyptian Gods are also DIVINE: the Wicked Gods in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga, the Sacred Beasts in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime (except "Chaos Phantasm Armityle"), and the Nordic Gods in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime.

In the anime and manga, DIVINE monsters are called "God cards" (かみのカード Kami no kādo), though this term is not used for the Sacred Beasts.

Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM[edit]

In Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM, the DIVINE Attribute is used by the Sacred Beasts: "Raviel, Lord of Phantasms", "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames", and "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder". DIVINE cards have their own black and gold frame and only one DIVINE card can be included in a Deck.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • The DIVINE Attribute is rarely visible in other media.
    • In the Japanese anime, the Egyptian God cards do not have visible Attributes. The English dub adds the DIVINE Attribute.
    • In the manga, cards do not have visible Attributes in general. The Wicked God cards are identified as god cards through dialogue and the fact that "The Wicked Dreadroot" allowed "The Selection" to negate the Special Summon of "The Sun Dragon Ra", proving that they are the same Type (and presumably Attribute).
    • In both the Japanese and English anime, the Sacred Beasts do not have visible Attributes. The source that they are DIVINE Divine-Beast is the anime card database of the Yu-Gi-Oh! website.
    • The Nordic God cards have their DIVINE Attribute fully visible in the Japanese anime. The English dub instead uses their TCG Attributes.
  • The DIVINE Attribute has the same background as the LIGHT Attribute.
