Galaxy (Type)

Galaxy (ギャラクシー Gyarakushī) is a Type of Monster Card that is exclusive to Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel. It was first revealed alongside Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! at Jump Festa 2021^[1], and debuted in Secret Ace Pack 2022 Vol.1 (with "Transam Linac") before getting its proper wave of members and support in Deck Mod Pack: Galaxy of Fate!!.

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime, the Type is played by Yudias Velgear, Zuwijo Zwil Velgear, Dinowa Velgear, Sabyuas, Bruyea, Zeyet, Fukamura, and Yuamu Ohdo.

Design[edit]

Thematically, Galaxy Type monsters are beings with a cosmic theme and reference subjects related to space such as aliens and astronauts, with a variety of possible forms in a similar fashion to the Cyberse Type: some are simple creatures with space motifs; others are humanoids with space like skin texture or luminescent patterns on their armor; and some more are metallic beings with orbs, cloth and hard light structures that contain galactic patterns or dark energy. They include many Normal Monsters and most Galaxy Type Normal Monsters include Velgearian alien speech in their flavor text. Most Galaxy monsters are LIGHT or DARK, with EARTH being the least used attribute in Galaxy monsters.

In terms of playstyle, Galaxy monsters and their support cards focus on gaining power from having Normal Monsters on your field or in your Graveyard. Many also have pro-LIGHT or anti-LIGHT playstyles or balance LIGHT with DARK monsters. Later releases focused on Fusion Summoning and would introduce Contact Fusion to the format.

Trivia[edit]

• The Galaxy Type has the same Japanese name as the "Galaxy" archetype from the OCG/TCG.
• The Galaxy Type is the first original Type in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel that is not exclusive to Fusion Monsters, as it is the first to have a Ritual Monster in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel.
• The Galaxy Type is often associated with the colors white and various shades of blue (particularly cyan and pale blue), as the OuTerverSe monsters turn into these colors when they change into the Galaxy Type, often resembling real Galaxy monsters or their users as a result.
