Quick-Play Spell Card

Quick-Play Spell Cards (Japanese: （そっ）（こう）（ま）（ほう）カード Sokkō Mahō Kādo, lit. "Quick-Strike Magic Card") are a subcategory of Spell Cards that are Spell Speed 2. They were introduced to the OCG in Magic Ruler and to the TCG in Spell Ruler.

Description[edit]

Quick-Play Spell Cards can be activated from the turn's player hand at any point and, like Trap Cards, in either player's turn starting from the one after they're Set.^[1] They cannot be activated from the hand during the opponent's turn unless explicitly allowed by the effects of cards such as "Condemned Maiden".

Following their activation and resolution, Quick-Play Spell Cards are sent to the Graveyard, just like Normal Spell Cards.

As Spell Speed 2 cards, Quick-Play Spell Cards can be Chained to other Spell Speed 1 or 2 cards.^[2]

Only the activation of a Quick-Play Spell Card itself is Spell Speed 2; other activated effects written on them (e.g. the Graveyard effect of "Eldlixir of White Destiny") are always Spell Speed 1.

Quick-Play Spells did not exist in the original manga, as all Spell Cards could be activated as if they were Spell Speed 2. In most cases, they were activated during the opponent's turn, as long as they were Set beforehand. Therefore, Quick-Play Spells might have been created in order to adapt this property of Spell Cards from the manga.

The "Magic" to "Spell" terminology change only happened in English; thus, other languages still use names that translate to "Quick[...] Magic" (other than German, which has always used a name that can be translated as "Quick Spell").
