Zelenskyy: Work underway at 245 energy facilities across Ukraine despite funding shortfall
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a government and regional video conference on the energy situation.
"We are already preparing for the next winter and gradually restoring what Russian strikes destroyed this winter. Resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country. Road repairs after winter are also ongoing. It is important at the community level and at the regional authority level not to waste time. Every facility that matters must be protected," Zelensky said on Telegram.
He stressed that clear objectives have been set for regions and major cities regarding alternative power generation and facility restoration. Government officials have secured the necessary resources and decisions to add cogeneration units to the system.
"Two hundred and forty-five facilities across the country are already under way, and we began this work despite a funding shortfall: European support package of 90 billion euros for Ukraine remains blocked. And this is a problem - that Europeans cannot find a solution and fulfill what they promised. Five billion from this package was intended specifically for preparing Ukraine for the next winter and for rapid restoration. We hope a decision will still be reached," the president added.
