👁 Image The lower sky in a Buffet world in 1.13.2 , with VBOs turned off.
The lower sky was a visual effect in the Overworld in which a colored plane existed below the horizon in the world, similarly to the sky opposite it. It was removed, presumably accidentally, during 1.14's development; Mojang have since decided that this removal was intentional.[ 1]
Java Edition Infdev 20100618 Added the lower sky. Java Edition 1.8 14w30a Turning on VBOs will now stop the lower sky from rendering. 1.10 pre1 VBOs are now enabled by default, overriding previous settings; this will forcibly remove the lower sky unless the option is manually re-enabled. 1.14 18w44a The VBOs toggle has been removed and are now always used. As a result, it is no longer possible to view the lower sky.
